Time-varying carrier frequency offset estimation in OFDM underwater acoustic communication

Gilad Avrashi et al.

Summary: This study focuses on carrier frequency offset estimation in OFDM underwater acoustic communication, proposing a simple estimator by transmitting equi-power and equi-spaced pilot tones. By designing the phases of pilot tones, the peak to average power can be kept low while maintaining a sufficient pilot to data ratio. Modifications are made for time-varying underwater acoustic channels, showing superior performance compared to state-of-the-art techniques.

Pilot-Assisted OFDM for Underwater Acoustic Communication

Mohsin Murad et al.

Summary: Multicarrier techniques are used to transmit data wirelessly for underwater acoustic communication, with a pilot-based channel estimation technique and two equalizers proposed for improving error performance. Computer simulations show that the number of pilots should be one-fourth the number of subcarriers, and increasing pilot energy can degrade error performance. Both LS and ZF equalizers provide acceptable error performance, with ZF slightly outperforming LS. The system maintains acceptable error performance even at a distance of 1250 meters.

CPM-OFDM Performance over Underwater Acoustic Channels

Imran A. Tasadduq et al.

Summary: A novel CPM-OFDM transceiver for underwater acoustic communication was proposed and evaluated for its performance using Monte-Carlo simulations. The results showed superior error rate performance of CPM-OFDM compared to traditional OFDM schemes, with acceptable performance up to a distance of 1.5 km. Furthermore, PAPR reduction techniques are necessary for maintaining acceptable PAPR performance of CPM-OFDM.
