Synthesis-Structure-Activity Relationship in Cu-MOR for Partial Methane Oxidation: Al Siting via Inorganic Structure-Directing Agents

Sebastian Prodinger et al.

Summary: In this study, the researchers successfully synthesized Cu-MOR materials with different inclinations for the selective oxidation of methane by varying the relative proportion of aluminum situated near the 8-rings and 12-rings of MOR zeolite. The study confirmed the discrete changes of aluminum within the unit cell through spectroscopic techniques and adsorption experiments, and found that Cu2+ species were the active sites in the selective oxidation of methane.

Titration of Cu(I) Sites in Cu-ZSM-5 by Volumetric CO Adsorption

Gabriele Deplano et al.

Summary: Cu-exchanged zeolites are important materials in industrial processes, and this study presents a novel technique for quantitatively studying Cu redox speciation in these materials. By using isothermal volumetric adsorption measurements and infrared spectroscopy, a good correlation between results is found, allowing for spectrophotometric quantification. This complementary set of tools provides good sensitivity and precision in quantitatively studying Cu redox speciation at the laboratory scale.

Dynamic Binuclear CuII Sites in the Reduction Half-Cycle of Low-Temperature NH3-SCR over Cu-CHA Catalysts

Wenshuo Hu et al.

Summary: Cu-exchanged chabazite zeolite (Cu-CHA) is an efficient catalyst for the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NOx, and the dynamic cycling of Cu cations plays an important role in the SCR process. Cu cations are activated by forming Cu-NH3 complexes through reaction with NH3 under low-temperature conditions, and they exhibit homogeneous features in the heterogeneous catalytic process of low-temperature SCR. These features are influenced by electrostatic interactions between Cu cations and conjugate Al centers.

Bronsted acidity in zeolites measured by deprotonation energy

Michal Trachta et al.

Summary: In this paper, the Bronsted acidity strength in different types of zeolites was investigated using density functional theory. A novel approach to cluster generation was proposed to obtain accurate values of deprotonation energy (DPE). The results indicate a correlation between DPE and zeolite framework density.

Andrea Martini et al.

Summary: This study investigates the mechanism of Cu-exchanged chabazite catalyst in NH3-SCR using in situ X-ray absorption spectroscopy. It is found that the Si/Al ratio of the zeolite affects the structure of Cu-complexes, thereby influencing the catalytic performance of the catalyst.

Copper Pairing in the Mordenite Framework as a Function of the CuI/CuII Speciation

Gabriele Deplano et al.

Summary: In this study, a series of gas-phase reactants were used to investigate the formation of Cu pairs in a Cu-exchanged mordenite zeolite under different reaction environments. The rearrangement of Cu ions to form multimeric sites was studied using X-ray absorption spectroscopy and advanced analysis through wavelet transform. The results showed that under an oxidative environment, Cu-I/Cu-II speciation correlated with Cu proximity, with metal ion pairs quantitatively forming.

First-Principles Microkinetic Model for Low-Temperature NH3-Assisted Selective Catalytic Reduction of NO over Cu-CHA

Yingxin Feng et al.

Summary: The study shows that NH3-SCR on Cu-CHA is facilitated by NH3-solvated Cu sites, promoting the selective reduction of NO; NH3 adsorption inhibits the reaction at low temperatures; the successful formulation of a first-principles microkinetic model links kinetic behavior with materials properties.

Identification of Kinetic and Spectroscopic Signatures of Copper Sites for Direct Oxidation of Methane to Methanol

Vitaly L. Sushkevich et al.

Summary: In this study, the kinetic behavior of different copper species during the conversion of methane to methanol was tracked using spectroscopic techniques. Two copper monomers and a copper dimeric species were identified as active in the reaction. The reaction rate of copper monomers was found to be somewhat slower but with an activation energy two times lower than that of the dicopper mono-mu-oxo species.

Confinement in a Zeolite and Zeolite Catalysis

Yuchao Chai et al.

Summary: Zeolites, with their ordered channels on the molecular scale, are intrinsic confined systems that play crucial roles in various fields. The structural confinement in zeolites can lead to unique chemical behaviors, affecting molecular diffusion and shape-selective catalysis. Understanding the nature of zeolite confinement from spatial and electronic perspectives is essential for their effective utilization in adsorption and catalysis.
