TEL: Low-Latency Failover Traffic Engineering in Data Plane

Habib Mostafaei et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a system called TEL, which contains two FRR mechanisms, TEL-C and TEL-D, for computing backup forwarding rules in the control plane and data plane respectively. Both mechanisms require minimal memory on programmable data planes and are compatible with modern line rate match-action forwarding architectures. Experimental results show that our FRR mechanism can significantly improve flow completion time compared to recirculation-based mechanisms.
