Computational Fluid Dynamics Support for Fontan Planning in Minutes, Not Hours: The Next Step in Clinical Pre-Interventional Simulations

Petter Frieberg et al.

Summary: A lean CFD method was validated against an established CFD method for Fontan patients undergoing MRI, showing similar results in flow distribution, power loss, and wall shear stress, but with significantly shorter computation time. The proposed lean method may offer fast and reliable results for CFD support during future interventions.

3D/4D spatiotemporal image correlation (STIC) fetal echocardiography provides incremental benefit over 2D fetal echocardiography in predicting postnatal surgical approach in double-outlet right ventricle

B. Karmegaraj et al.

Summary: The study suggests that the addition of 3D/4D STIC to conventional 2D fetal echocardiography confers incremental benefit on the accuracy of identifying crucial anatomical details and predicting the postnatal surgical approach in fetuses with double-outlet right ventricle (DORV), particularly enhancing the accuracy in predicting single-stage and multistage surgical repair.

Prognostic value of the nutmeg lung pattern/lymphangiectasia on fetal magnetic resonance imaging

Christian A. Barrera et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the clinical associations of nutmeg lung on fetal MRI and its relationship with early mortality in fetuses with congenital heart disease. Pulmonary vein congestion was found to be the strongest predictor of nutmeg lung. In fetuses with congenital heart disease, those with nutmeg lung had significantly lower survival rate than those without this feature.
