By developing a simple procedure, the electrochemical properties of the iron(III) tetraphenylporphyrin chloride catalyst were significantly improved through a synergistic effect with imidazolium dications in the ionic liquid electrolyte. This enhancement led to improved performance in CO electrochemical production and allowed for various tandem CO2 reduction-carbonylation reactions to be conducted under mild conditions.
Here, we report a simple procedure that drastically reduces the electrochemical E(Fe-l/Fe-0) and E-cat(0) of the commercially available iron(III) tetraphenylporphyrin chloride ((FeTPP)-T-III.Cl) catalyst via a synergetic effect with the imidazolium dications of the ionic liquid electrolyte. This procedure enhanced the performance of catalytic systems in the electrochemical production of CO and enabled us to perform different tandem CO2 reduction-carbonylation reactions under mild conditions.
