Hybrid Double Perovskite Containing Helium: [He2][CaZr]F6

Anthony J. Lloyd et al.

Summary: Perovskites are important materials with technological and geological significance due to their compositional and structural flexibility. The introduction of helium into the structure leads to the formation of a new perovskite [He-2][CaZr]F-6, which shows reduced negative thermal expansion and considerable stiffening of the structure. This helium-containing perovskite exhibits a structural phase transition under compression, indicating potential for further research and applications.

Relevance of π-Backbonding for the Reactivity of Electrophilic Anions [B12X11]- (X=F, Cl, Br, I, CN)

Martin Mayer et al.

Summary: The reactivity of [B12X11](-) towards different nucleophiles varies depending on the substituent X, with temperature-dependent formation indicating an enthalpy order of (X=CN)>(X=Cl)≈(X=Br)>(X=I)≈(X=F). The binding of CO and N-2 to [B12X11](-) is significantly stronger compared to noble gases, and the B3LYP 0 K attachment enthalpies follow a different order. Experimental results and analyses support a rational understanding of the reactivity of [B12X11](-) and provide systematic data on pi-backdonation from delocalized sigma-electron systems of closo-borate anions.

Binding of noble gas atoms by superhalogens

Hong Fang et al.

Summary: Noble gas atoms typically do not participate in chemical reactions, but research has shown that their interactions with specific substances vary depending on cluster size and terminal ligands. The study concludes that the interaction with noble gas atoms becomes stronger with increasing cluster size and the electron affinity of the terminal ligands, and also reveals a counter-intuitive finding.

Strong Binding of Noble Gases to [B12X11]-: A Theoretical Study

Kevin Woehner et al.

Summary: The study systematically investigates the binding of noble gas atoms to the [B12X11](-) clusters in mass spectrometers, revealing the strong stability and properties of resulting adducts. Among the noble gases, Xe shows the highest complexation energy when forming complexes with [B12X11](-).

Super-electrophiles of tri- and tetra-anions stabilized by selected terminal groups and their role in binding noble gas atoms

Ming Min Zhong et al.

Summary: Using density functional theory and semi-empirical dispersion corrections, this study developed highly stable tri- and tetra-anions and investigated their interactions with noble gas atoms like Ne, Ar, and Kr. The results demonstrate that these clusters can bind noble gas atoms strongly through super-electrophilic sites, enriching the database of highly-charged clusters and providing a design rule for super-electrophiles that can strongly bind noble gas atoms.
