Amino-Functionalized Niobium-Carbide MXene Serving as Electron Transport Layer and Perovskite Additive for the Preparation of High-Performance and Stable Methylammonium-Free Perovskite Solar Cells

Summary: In this work, 2D Nb2CTx MXene nanosheets were prepared and used as electron transport layer (ETL) materials in perovskite solar cells. By altering the surface groups of the MXene nanosheets, the work function was matched with the conduction band minimum of the perovskite layer, resulting in improved performance of the solar cells. Additionally, the incorporation of treated MXene nanosheets into the perovskite precursor helped in the formation of high-quality and oriented growth perovskite films, leading to higher power conversion efficiency (PCE). The flexible and large-area devices with MXene ETLs and additives achieved the highest PCE. Furthermore, the unencapsulated devices demonstrated good stability after long-term storage.

Chlorine-terminated MXene quantum dots for improving crystallinity and moisture stability in high-performance perovskite solar cells

Summary: In this study, Cl-terminated Ti3C2 quantum dots were used as additives to improve the crystallinity and film orientation of perovskite films in n-i-p planar perovskite solar cells. The strong interaction between the Cl terminations of Ti3C2Clx QDs and Pb2+ ions resulted in a high-quality perovskite film with high crystallinity and fewer trap-states. Additionally, the Ti3C2Clx QDs improved charge extraction and band alignment between the electron transport layer and the perovskite layer, leading to enhanced device efficiency. Moreover, the Cl-terminated Ti3C2Clx QDs improved the humidity stability of the perovskite, enabling the unencapsulated device to maintain over 84% of its initial performance after aging.

Development of MXene/WO3 embedded PEDOT:PSS hole transport layers for highly efficient perovskite solar cells and X-ray detectors

Summary: In this study, a simple solution process was used to decorate WO3 nanoparticles on 2D conductive Ti3C2TX MXene sheets, forming MXene/WO3 hybrid structure, which was applied for the first time as the hole transport layer (HTL) in perovskite solar cells and X-ray detectors. The results showed that the perovskite solar cell with MXene/WO3/PEDOT: PSS HTL achieved a high power conversion efficiency, while the X-ray photodetector with MXene/WO3 blended HTL device exhibited superior sensitivity. The research findings revealed that the MXene/WO3 heterostructure effectively tuned the HTL/perovskite interface, facilitating charge extraction and shortest charge carrier lifetime.

Preparation and performance of perovskite solar cells with two dimensional MXene as active layer additive

Performance improvement of MXene-based perovskite solar cells upon property transition from metallic to semiconductive by oxidation of Ti3C2Tx in air

Summary: By oxidizing Ti3C2Tx, its properties can be adjusted for use as an electron transport layer in low-temperature processed perovskite solar cells (PSCs), resulting in improved energy conversion efficiency. Heavy oxidation of Ti3C2Tx reduces macroscopic defects in the film and transitions it from a metallic material to a semiconductor, leading to enhanced electron mobility and reduced electron-hole recombination for higher power conversion efficiency (PCE).
