Structure dependent and strain tunable magnetic ordering in ultrathin chromium telluride

Jun Zhou et al.

Summary: In this study, the magnetic ordering of ultrathin chromium tellurides was found to be structure dependent and tunable by external strain. First-principles calculations and Monte Carlo simulations showed long-range stable magnetism with high and low Curie temperatures, as well as short-range magnetism in 2D Cr5Te8, CrTe2, and Cr2Te3 layers.

A first principles study of uniaxial strain-stabilized long-range ferromagnetic ordering in electrenes

Jun Zhou et al.

Summary: In the absence of external magnetic fields, uniaxial strains can stabilize long-range ferromagnetic ordering in a 2D magnet LaBr2 by effectively changing its magnetic anisotropy. The unique properties of its magnetic anionic electrons are not affected by such manipulations. The strain-dependent magnetic anisotropy can be explained by Bruno's model, and Monte Carlo simulations show the emergence of long-range magnetic ordering when uniaxial strains are applied.
