Cadmium sodium phosphate glasses doped with ytterbium ions were investigated in terms of their structural changes, optical absorption spectra, emission cross-sections, and gain spectra for laser and amplifier applications.
Cadmium sodium phosphate glasses doped with ytterbium ions were fabricated by standard melt-quenching technique. The structural changes of the glass matrix doped with different ratios of Yb3+ ions were investigated via FTIR and Raman spectroscopies. The optical absorption spectra were studied via UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopy and the optical constants such as bandgaps, Urbach energies, refractive indices, and dispersion parameters were calculated. The emission cross-sections and gain spectra for F-2(5/2). F-2(7/2) transition of Yb3+ ions were investigated. The high values of emission cross-sections of the studied glasses make them strong candidates for laser and amplifier applications.
