RAFT Polymerization of Semifluorinated Monomers Mediated by a NIR Fluorinated Photocatalyst

Qiankun Ma et al.

Summary: This study presents a strategy for near-infrared (NIR) photoinduced electron/energy transfer-reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (PET-RAFT) polymerization of semifluorinated monomers using a NIR photocatalyst called fluorophenyl bacteriochlorin. The strategy involves modifying a reduced tetraphenylporphyrin structure with F atoms to enhance the photostability of the photocatalyst. Under NIR light irradiation, the PET-RAFT polymerization exhibits living/control characteristics and temporal modulation. Stable fluorine-containing micelles and fluorinated hydrophobic surfaces are successfully constructed using this strategy.

Red-Light-Induced, Copper-Catalyzed Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization

Sajjad Dadashi-Silab et al.

Summary: In this study, a dual photoredox catalytic system was developed for photoinduced ATRP under red-light irradiation, avoiding the problems associated with UV light activation of the catalyst. The system showed oxygen tolerance due to the consumption of oxygen in the photoredox reactions, resulting in well-controlled polymerizations without the need for deoxygenation processes.

One Reagent with Two Functions: Simultaneous Living Radical Polymerization and Chain-End Substitution for Tailoring Polymer Dispersity

Chen-Gang Wang et al.

Summary: The article introduces an efficient method to control dispersity by exploiting the dual functions of NaN3 under different solvent polarities. By simultaneous polymerization and chain-end substitution, the D values of polymers were tuned. This approach allowed for the production of polymer brushes with tailored D values.

A fluorinated polymer sponge with superhydrophobicity for high-performance biomechanical energy harvesting

Zehua Peng et al.

Summary: We have developed a fluorinated polymer sponge based triboelectric nanogenerator (FPS-TENG) that provides stable electrical output and high durability, outperforming traditional TENG. When assembled with hydrophobic copper contact electrodes, FPS-TENG retains almost 90% electrical output over 20-85% relative humidity.

Efficient Access to Inverse Bicontinuous Mesophases via Polymerization-Induced Cooperative Assembly

Fei Lv et al.

Summary: Polymerization-induced cooperative assembly (PICA) is reported to efficiently access inverse bicontinuous mesophases within particles consisting of amphiphilic block copolymers (BCPs) and solvophobic copolymers. Through systematic variation of core-forming block/solvophobic copolymer at different CTA molar ratios, PICA promotes the formation of inverse bicontinuous mesophases more effectively compared with PISA. The synthesized BCPs/solvophobic copolymers by PICA have low dispersity and the particle morphology was investigated by TEM, SEM, and SAXS.

Solution self-assembly of fluorinated polymers, an overview

Marc Guerre et al.

Summary: Fluoropolymers have remarkable properties such as high resistance to chemicals, UV, and heat, as well as ferroelectricity and piezoelectricity. The incorporation of fluorinated moieties can confer unique properties, leading to self-assembly in solution and original morphologies with rare properties. Advances in organic and polymer chemistry have allowed for the design of fluorinated copolymer architectures.
