Decision boundary clustering for efficient local SVM

Hatem A. Fayed et al.

Summary: Scaling up support vector machine for large data sets remains a challenge due to the need to break down the problem into smaller parts using clustering techniques. A new supervised clustering technique is proposed to alleviate overfitting issues by partitioning data around the decision boundary. Experimental results show that this approach outperforms other models, especially when using radial basis kernel, for most benchmark large data sets.

Faster SVM training via conjugate SMO

Alberto Torres-Barran et al.

Summary: The study proposes an improved version of the SMO algorithm based on Conjugate Descent procedure, which reduces the number of iterations while maintaining computational efficiency, especially with a positive definite kernel matrix leading to linear convergence rate. Experimental results demonstrate that this new approach is faster for many hyper-parameter configurations compared to traditional algorithms.

A boosted SVM classifier trained by incremental learning and decremental unlearning approach

Rasha Kashef

Summary: Linear SVM classifiers use linear kernels, while non-linear SVM classifiers adopt non-linear kernels, with the former being faster to train. Training non-linear SVM classifiers efficiently remains a challenge in current research.
