Investigating microscopic seepage characteristics and fracture effectiveness of tight sandstones: a digital core approach

Jing Li et al.

Summary: Microscopic seepage characteristics in tight sandstone reservoirs were evaluated using a digital core approach integrating microscopic seepage simulation and CT scanning. The results showed incomplete development of fractures and poor connectivity between micro-cracks in the investigated tight sandstone, with the proposed method providing a way to easily obtain directional permeability. This study provides important information for improving exploration and development of tight sandstone reservoirs.

Geological conditions, reservoir evolution and favorable exploration directions of marine ultra-deep oil and gas in China

Li Jianzhong et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the structural background, petroleum geological conditions, and typical regional oil and gas reservoirs in marine ultra-deep oil and gas regions in China. It reveals the evolution processes and key controlling factors of accumulation in these reservoirs, which are mainly distributed in the Sichuan, Tarim, and Ordos cratonic basins. The dominant carbonate rocks in the ultra-deep reservoirs are controlled by high-energy sedimentary environments and later-stage corrosion and fractures. The accumulation of oil and gas in these regions is influenced by both static and dynamic geological elements.
