Electric Polarization Switching on an Atomically Thin Metallic Oxide

Mao Ye et al.

Summary: The study discusses the fabrication of superlattices with reversible polarization switching in an atomically thin metallic layer, showcasing a novel 2D ferroelectric-like metal. Through various analyses, the coexistence of 2D metallicity and electric polarization phenomena in the SrRuO3 layer is unveiled, providing insights into the unique coexisting properties manipulated by external fields.

Rare regions and avoided quantum criticality in disordered Weyl semimetals and superconductors

J. H. Pixley et al.

Summary: In recent years, disorder in Weyl semimetals and superconductors has been a topic of subtle interest, leading to competition between various theories. This review discusses the theoretical understanding of the effects of short-ranged, quenched disorder on the low-energy properties of three-dimensional, topological Weyl semimetals and superconductors, focusing on non-perturbative rare region effects and their role in destabilizing the semimetal phase and altering the expected semimetal-to-diffusive metal transition. New results on a bipartite random hopping model are presented, confirming previous findings in a p + ip Weyl superconductor. The review also touches on the nature of the avoided transition in a model for a single Weyl cone in the continuum, concluding with a discussion of open questions and future directions.

Impurity effect as a probe for the pairing symmetry of graphene-based superconductors

Yuan-Qiao Li et al.

Summary: This study theoretically examines the impact of a single impurity on graphene-based superconductors, discussing four different pairing symmetries. It finds sharp in-gap resonant peaks near the impurity site for specific pairing symmetries with large chemical potentials. The presence or absence of in-gap peaks in different pairing symmetries can be explained by analyzing the sign-reversal of the superconducting gap along different Fermi pockets. These findings provide a useful probe for experimental verification of the pairing symmetry in graphene-based superconductors.

Breakdown of universality in three-dimensional Dirac semimetals with random impurities

J. P. Santos Pires et al.

Summary: Rare impurity configurations play a critical role in the stability of incompressible electrons in 3D Dirac-Weyl semimetals, and strong nonperturbative effects can convert these semimetals into compressible metals. This was validated through high-resolution real-space simulations.
