A Multi-Scenario Simulation and Optimization of Land Use with a Markov-FLUS Coupling Model: A Case Study in Xiong'an New Area, China

Jingeng Huo et al.

Summary: Multi-scenario simulation and pattern optimization of land use are important for improving regional functionality and balancing anthropogenic and natural environments. This study simulated future land use changes in Xiong'an New Area using an optimized Markov-FLUS coupling model. The results showed that the land suitability probability in different scenarios successfully calculated the effect of land expansion, and the simulation provided new strategies for the planning and development of Xiong'an New Area in 2035.

Construction and Optimization of an Ecological Network in Zhengzhou Metropolitan Area, China

Jingeng Huo et al.

Summary: Rapid urbanization exacerbates issues related to ecological environment protection and optimization. This study constructs an ecological network system and efficiently utilizes landscape effects to adjust regional ecological space and promote local sustainable development. Using land use data, the study identifies local ecological sources, corridors, and nodes, and establishes an ecological network with high structural integrity.

Coupling Ecological Security Pattern Establishment and Construction Land Expansion Simulation for Urban Growth Boundary Delineation: Framework and Application

Dan Yi et al.

Summary: The delineation of the urban growth boundary is crucial for guiding orderly urban space growth and ensuring urban environmental health. This study presents a framework that integrates ecological security pattern establishment and construction land expansion simulation to delineate the boundary. The framework was applied to Nanchang Metropolitan Area in China, and the resulting boundary was verified to be rational and scientific. This framework provides a useful tool for similar urbanized cities to achieve a win-win outcome of regional ecological security and urban development.

Spatiotemporal variations of extreme precipitation and its potential driving factors in China's North-South Transition Zone during 1960-2017

Liyuan Wang et al.

Summary: The study analyzed the spatiotemporal variations of extreme precipitation events in the Qinba mountains, finding different trends in extreme precipitation in the region; extreme precipitation increased in the eastern part while decreased in the western part; altitude, longitude, and latitude have a significant impact on extreme precipitation; atmospheric circulation patterns and ENSO also play a crucial role in extreme precipitation variations.

Incorporating ecological constraints into urban growth boundaries: A case study of ecologically fragile areas in the Upper Yellow River

Xuedi Yang et al.

Summary: This study proposes a new framework for delineating urban growth boundaries in an ecologically sustainable manner, taking into account ecological constraints and the impact of human activities on the environment to guide sustainable urban development. The results suggest that focusing solely on urban development plans may have negative impacts on natural resources and ecological sustainability, highlighting the importance of considering ecological factors in urban planning.

Automatic Delineation of Urban Growth Boundaries Based on Topographic Data Using Germany as a Case Study

Oliver Harig et al.

Summary: Urban Growth Boundary (UGB) is a growth management policy that concentrates growth in specific areas to protect agricultural land and the natural environment. Current UGBs in Germany are manually created by experts, highlighting the need for automated delineations to avoid reliance on manual or semi-automated methods.

Analysis of an Urban Development Boundary Policy in China Based on the IAD Framework

Jiaojiao Luo et al.

Summary: The study found that the implementation of urban development boundary policy may lead to fiscal crises, property inflation, and illegal construction, and suggests that the transfer of industrial land inside the boundary should be controlled within a reasonable range and a land value tax should be introduced during the policy implementation.
