A solidarity paradox - welfare state data in global health data economy

Karoliina Snell et al.

Summary: This article explores the conditions and boundaries of solidarity in the emerging data-driven health economy. The authors argue that there is a contradiction between the logic of the welfare state and the logic of the data-driven health economy. While the data economy is not possible without the welfare state data regime, the values of the data-driven health economy contradict the values of the welfare state data regime, leading to questionable justifications for data gathering and use.
