Quantifying the Benefits and Ecosystem Services Provided by Green Roofs-A Review

Summary: This paper presents a comprehensive review of green roofs (GR) and quantifies their benefits. The research found that there is a considerable amount of studies on extensive green roofs, but limited research on intensive and semi-intensive green roofs. The study highlights the popularity of GRs in terms of reducing urban heat and runoff, but there is a need for further research on other benefits such as reducing noise and air pollution. The paper also identifies limitations of GRs and suggests opportunities for future research.

Using the Halophyte Crithmum maritimum in Green Roofs for Sustainable Urban Horticulture: Effect of Substrate and Nutrient Content Analysis including Potentially Toxic Elements

Summary: The effect of substrate type and cultivation site on the growth, nutrient content, and potentially toxic element accumulation in tissues of the halophyte Crithmum maritimum was studied. The results showed that both cultivation site and substrate type affected the accumulation of heavy metals in plant tissues, with street-level-grown plants having higher concentrations. Additionally, plants grown on the ground level had better aboveground growth parameters and nutrient content.

Growth and development of succulent mixtures for extensive green roofs in a Mediterranean climate

Summary: This study evaluates two mixtures of succulent plants for green roof systems in Mediterranean environments and observes the growth indicators, cover percentage, flowering, and rainfall retention. The results show that both mixtures are suitable for Mediterranean environments and exhibit different characteristics in different seasons. The study also suggests that combining Sedum and Aizoaceae plants might create more resilient green roof systems in Mediterranean environments.
