Summary: Grafting plays an important role in inducing precocity and maintaining clonal integrity in fruit tree crops. This study quantified additive genetic parameters in avocado plus trees and their open-pollinated half-sib seedling families, and found that elite plus trees could serve as promising donors of seedling rootstocks for avocado orchards.

Biochemical, Sensory, and Molecular Evaluation of Flavour and Consumer Acceptability in Australian Papaya (Carica papaya L.) Varieties

Summary: Inconsistency in flavor is a challenge faced by the Australian papaya industry. This study analyzed sensory profiles, sugar components, and selected volatile compounds of different papaya varieties. The results showed that red-flesh papayas were sweeter with higher sugar content, while yellow-flesh papayas had higher concentrations of citrus floral aroma volatiles. The study also found that certain compounds were significantly associated with decreased consumer liking. Differences in gene expression patterns were observed among the selected papaya varieties, potentially affecting their characteristics.
