Mechanically robust, biocompatible, and durable PHEMA-based hydrogels enabled by the synergic effect of strong intermolecular interaction and suppressed phase separation

Yi Wang et al.

Summary: This study develops a strategy to construct PHEMA-based hydrogels with exceptionally high tensile strength, elastic modulus, and toughness by introducing coordination interactions and suppressing phase separation. These hydrogels show comparable mechanical properties to human nasal and auricular cartilage, and exhibit outstanding self-recovery properties and fatigue resistance.

Milk Protein-Based Nanohydrogels: Current Status and Applications

Manpreet Kaur et al.

Summary: Milk proteins are favored biomaterials for modifying and formulating food structures due to their high nutritional value, biodegradability, biocompatibility, and safety for human consumption. Hydrogels, as small-sized and highly efficient materials capable of absorbing large amounts of water and biological fluids, have attracted significant attention. Milk protein nanohydrogels can be synthesized through gelation, involving denaturation, aggregation, and gelation of proteins, either via chemical cross-linking with covalent bonds or physical cross-linking with noncovalent bonds. These nanohydrogels have diverse applications in food nutrition and health, food engineering and processing, and food safety.

A Highly Mechanical, Conductive, and Cryophylactic Double Network Hydrogel for Flexible and Low-Temperature Tolerant Strain Sensors

Quan Diao et al.

Summary: Hydrogels with stretchability, conductivity, and good biocompatibility have been considered as potential materials for flexible sensors. In this study, a chitosan-poly (acrylic acid-co-acrylamide) double network hydrogel was prepared by immersing the composite hydrogel into Fe-2(SO4)(3) solution. The resulting hydrogel exhibited excellent mechanical properties, conductivity and freeze-resistance, making it a promising material for wearable devices.

Chiral Supramolecular Hydrogel Loaded with Dimethyloxalyglycine to Accelerate Chronic Diabetic Wound Healing by Promoting Cell Proliferation and Angiogenesis

Yubo Zhang et al.

Summary: Chronic refractory wounds, a serious complication of diabetes, have limited treatment options. This research introduces a new approach using a supramolecular chiral hydrogel loaded with DMOG, which can slowly release drugs, promote cell migration and angiogenesis in vitro, and effectively promote full-thickness skin regeneration and angiogenesis in vivo.

2-Hydroxyethyl Methacrylate Hydrogels for Local Drug Delivery: Study of Topotecan and Vincristine Sorption/Desorption Kinetics and Polymer-Drug Interaction by ATR-FTIR Spectroscopy

Ana-Irina Cocarta et al.

Summary: This study investigates the sorption and release mechanisms of topotecan (TPT) and vincristine (VCR) by pHEMA hydrogels, finding that the hydrogels have higher affinity for TPT than for VCR, and hydrogels prepared with 0.5 wt% crosslinker show the maximum sorption capacity for both drugs. The analysis of FTIR spectra suggests that hydrophobic crosslinks play an important role in the interaction between the hydrogel backbone and drug molecules.

Three Cases of Bilateral Breast Absence Associated with Familial Congenital Ectodermal Defects

Shunqing Su et al.

Summary: This study analyzed three cases of bilateral breast absence associated with congenital ectodermal defects in the same family. It was found that two of the cases had a heterozygous mutation of the KCTD1 gene inherited from their father. Surgical treatment was performed on two cases with good clinical results achieved.
