Knowledge and attitude of caregivers of people with dementia

Summary: Most caregivers of people with dementia have a reasonable level of knowledge about dementia, but they have a less positive attitude towards the disease. There is a need to address the gaps in knowledge and attitude to improve outcomes for both the patients and their caregivers.

Summary: The study assessed the knowledge and attitude of final year medical students towards dementia and Alzheimer's disease, and conducted a sensitization teaching session by a group of intern doctors guided by a neurologist. Results showed an improvement in students' knowledge level but not in their attitude and comfort level in caring for dementia.
