Solving curing-protocol-dependent shape errors in PDMS replication

Emilie Delplanque et al.

Summary: The replication process of PDMS may result in surface deviations from ideal flatness, depending on the crosslinking protocol. These replication errors can be eliminated with a suitable two-steps protocol, as shown in this study. Finite element simulations reveal that the deviations are caused by thermal contraction during the cooling process, which applies to all length scales and is influenced by the sample's aspect ratio and boundary conditions. The findings have significant implications for applications that require well-defined sample geometry.

Twin-Wire Networks for Zero Interconnect, High-Density 4-Wire Electrical Characterizations of Materials

Nerio Andres Montoya et al.

Summary: This article introduces a method for zero interconnect networks that can achieve simple and efficient high-density four-wire measurements by connecting external instruments with pairs of twin wires. The researchers use 3D-printed holders and magnets to accurately measure delicate devices, such as thin metals on soft polymers. This method makes it easier to achieve statistically meaningful and reproducible analysis of materials, high-throughput measurements, and minimally invasive characterization of biomaterials.

Structural, Mechanical, and Dielectric Properties of Polydimethylsiloxane and Silicone Elastomer for the Fabrication of Clinical-Grade Kidney Phantom

Kamal Izdihar et al.

Summary: By adjusting the concentration ratios of base to curing agent, the elastic modulus and tensile strength of PDMS can be modified. PDMS exhibits a similar effective atomic number to human kidney tissue at intermediate energy levels, indicating its potential for use as a stable kidney phantom in medical imaging applications.
