Recirculation of reject water in deep-dewatering process to influent of wastewater treatment plant and dewaterability of sludge conditioned with Fe2+/H2O2, Fe2+/Ca(ClO)2, and Fe2+/Na2S2O8: From bench to pilot-scale study

Qianqian Wen et al.

Summary: The study showed that sewage sludge treated with advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) could achieve efficient deep dewatering, and the direct recirculation of deep-dewatering filtrate back to wastewater treatment plants was feasible. Different conditioning methods affected the properties of the deep-dewatered sludge, with most heavy metals and chlorine elements remaining in the dewatered sludge cake.

Exploration of novel high-temperature heavy metals adsorbent for sludge incineration process: Experiments and theoretical calculations

Lei Zhao et al.

Summary: The study found that attapulgite, as an adsorbent, had better adsorption effects on heavy metals at high temperatures, effectively controlling the pollution of heavy metals produced during municipal sludge incineration. Experimental results showed that the proportion of unstable fraction in the adsorption products of attapulgite was lower and exhibited better leaching stability compared to kaolin.

Simultaneous implementation of sludge dewatering and solid biofuel production by microwave torrefaction

Congyu Zhang et al.

Summary: The study on sludge dewatering and production of solid biofuel through microwave torrefaction has shown efficient dewatering in a short time and the produced fuel can be used for boilers. Changes in the characteristics of the solid biofuel were observed as the severity of torrefaction increased.

Effect of gaseous agents on co-combustion characteristics of sewage sludge and coal

Feiyue Gao et al.

Summary: Co-combustion of sewage sludge and coal is an effective way to generate energy and reduce environmental pollution. Oxy-fuel combustion technology improves energy efficiency and CO2 capture in power plants. The thermogravimetric analysis of co-combustion of sewage sludge and anthracite coal in different atmospheres revealed improvements in ignition and burnout performance by adding sewage sludge, as well as changes in properties with varying oxygen concentrations.

Impact of co-processing sewage sludge on cement kiln NOx emissions reduction

Yunhui Gu et al.

Summary: This study experimentally analyzed changes in NOx concentration in a cement kiln simulation with sewage sludge additions under different temperature and oxygen content levels. It found that the most significant reduction of NOx emission was achieved at 900 degrees C and 3% oxygen content level, mainly due to the conversion of NOx to N-2 by reducing substances released via the decomposition of free ammonia and protein in sludge. The study also demonstrated the effectiveness of adding sewage sludge to the precalciner in reducing NOx emissions during the co-processing in cement kilns.

Influence of calcium species on SO2 adsorption capacity of a novel carbonaceous materials and their ANN modeling

Cintia Karina Rojas-Mayorga et al.

Summary: The study investigated the dynamic adsorption behavior of sulfur dioxide on two activated carbons rich in calcium species, showing that the modified activated carbon had higher adsorption capacity and that increasing temperature reduced adsorption capacity. The most efficient residence time for mass transfer processes was achieved at a flow rate of 150 mL/min.
