A facile solvothermal syntheses of NiFe layered double hydroxide-Bi2MoO6 heterostructure/reduced graphene oxide with efficient photodegradation for tetracycline

Mufan Sun et al.

Summary: The synthesis of a NiFe LDH-BMO/RGO composite significantly enhanced the photocatalytic performance of BMO for TC degradation under visible light. The composite prepared with 3 wt% RGO exhibited the highest activity and cycle stability, showing excellent reusability even after five cycles. The improvement in performance is attributed to the unique sheet-on-sheet hierarchical heterostructure combined with RGO sheets, which enhances visible light absorption and charge separation.

Adsorption of perfluorooctanoic acid from water by pH-modulated Bronsted acid and base sites in mesoporous hafnium oxide ceramics

Fatima A. Hussain et al.

Summary: Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are increasingly found in drinking water globally. This research focuses on the adsorption of perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) using mesoporous hafnium oxide (MHO) ceramic. The experiments show that the adsorption capacity of PFOA by MHO is higher at lower pH values, and the solid MHO can be regenerated through calcination, reducing the amount of toxic solid waste.

Synthesis and Characterization of 2D-WS2 Incorporated Polyaniline Nanocomposites as Photo Catalyst for Methylene Blue Degradation

Syed Shahabuddin et al.

Summary: 2D-WS2 incorporated polyaniline nanocomposites (WS2-PANI) with varying WS2 loadings were synthesized via an easy in situ oxidative polymerization technique, which effectively enhanced the photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue (MB) in wastewater. The physicochemical properties of WS2-PANI (1-5) nanocomposites were characterized using various techniques such as FT-IR, XRD, BET surface area, TGA, FESEM, and HRTEM. HRTEM analysis confirmed the layered structure of WS2 with periodic planes (100) separated by 0.27 nm. Under UV photo irradiation, WS2-PANI (1-5) demonstrated excellent photocatalytic performance for MB degradation, with 2 wt.% WS2-PANI showing the highest efficiency of 93% degradation within 90 minutes. Moreover, the catalytic material exhibited good reusability without significant loss of catalytic performance, even after five cycles.

Mechanism insights into the facet-dependent photocatalytic degradation of perfluorooctanoic acid on BiOCl nanosheets

Yaoyao Wu et al.

Summary: The photocatalytic degradation of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) using BiOCl nanosheets with {010} or {001} facets showed that {010}-BiOCl exhibited higher catalytic activity compared to {001}-BiOCl in the degradation of perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA). The higher catalytic activity of {010}-BiOCl was attributed to the in-situ generated surface oxygen vacancies and strong interaction with PFOA molecules. Furthermore, the nanosheets with {010} facets showed the highest adsorption capacity and lowest adsorption energy for PFOA molecules, while photogenerated holes and surface hydroxyl radicals on {010} facets played a significant role in the degradation process. Additionally, F- ions as by-products tended to block the catalytic sites but could be removed using a simple chemical precipitation approach with Ca2+ ions to recover the catalytic performance.
