Effect of Residual Retinal Fluid on Visual Function in Ranibizumab-Treated Neovascular Age-Related Macular Degeneration

Nancy M. Holekamp et al.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between retinal fluid and vision in patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration treated with ranibizumab. The findings suggest that visual outcomes were better in eyes with residual subretinal fluid, but worse with residual intraretinal fluid. The presence of residual retinal fluid requires a more nuanced assessment in the management of nAMD.

Localized Optical Coherence Tomography Precursors of Macular Atrophy and Fibrotic Scar in the Comparison of Age-Related Macular Degeneration Treatments Trials

Avni P. Finn et al.

Summary: This study identified predictors of macular atrophy (MA) and fibrotic scar (FS) through pixelmapping analysis of baseline optical coherence tomography (OCT) images. Retinal pigment epithelium atrophy and photoreceptor loss were highly predictive of MA, while most pixels of FS were preceded by components of neovascularization. The development of MA and FS appears to be multifactorial.

Predominantly Persistent Subretinal Fluid in the Comparison of Age-Related Macular Degeneration Treatments Trials

Jason Q. Core et al.

Summary: This study compared the impact of predominantly persistent and nonpersistent subretinal fluid (SRF) in eyes receiving ranibizumab or bevacizumab for neovascular age-related macular degeneration on visual outcomes. The results showed that eyes with predominantly persistent and nonpersistent SRF had similar visual acuity outcomes at year 1.
