Enhancement of phase sensitivity by the additional resource in a Mach-Zehnder interferometer

Mengmeng Luo et al.

Summary: This study proposes a novel scheme to improve the phase sensitivity of an optical interferometer, investigating the methods and results of single-phase and two-phase sensitivity research. The results show that adjusting photon loss in the additional resource can achieve sub shot-noise phase sensitivity.

Ameliorated phase sensitivity through intensity measurements in a Mach-Zehnder interferometer

Jayanth Ramakrishnan et al.

Summary: The study investigates the limit of phase sensitivity in a Mach-Zehnder interferometer, proposing an improved scheme to enhance phase sensitivity. The improved phase sensitivity falls between the Heisenberg limit and the standard quantum limit, with a certain tolerance to attenuation and noise.

Quantum Fisher information maximization in an unbalanced interferometer

Stefan Ataman

Summary: In this paper, we investigate the optimal transmission coefficient of the first beam splitter in a general, unbalanced Mach-Zehnder interferometer to maximize the quantum Fisher information for both single- and two-parameter cases. We provide analytical results for various scenarios and find that the balanced scenario is optimal for the two-parameter case in most input states, while the unbalanced interferometer can offer a significant advantage in the single-parameter case. We also identify the condition under which no metrological advantage can be achieved through an external phase reference. Through examples, including Gaussian and non-Gaussian input states, we illustrate and discuss our findings.

Double-port measurements for robust quantum optical metrology

Wei Zhong et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the advantage of path-entangled Fock states (PEFSs) over NOON states in the presence of photon losses by analytically calculating the quantum Fisher information. Three types of feasible measurements are investigated to achieve this advantage: parity, photon-number-resolving, and homodyne measurements. The researchers apply a double-port measurement strategy to simultaneously detect photons at each output port of the interferometer with different measurement types.
