CLINICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND NATURAL HISTORY OF RHO-ASSOCIATED RETINITIS PIGMENTOSA A Long-Term Follow-Up Study

Xuan-Thanh-An Nguyen et al.

Summary: By reviewing medical charts of 100 patients with autosomal dominant RHO-associated RP, the study found significant differences in disease progression between patients with generalized RP phenotype and those with sector RP phenotype in terms of central visual field, suggesting that the optimal window for intervention should be before the 5th decade of life. The study also suggests that the PR + RPE complex could be a potential surrogate endpoint for BCVA in future studies.

Leber Congenital Amaurosis Due to GUCY2D Mutations: Longitudinal Analysis of Retinal Structure and Visual Function

Samuel G. Jacobson et al.

Summary: Gene augmentation therapy is planned for GUCY2D-associated Leber congenital amaurosis. Results show variability in disease expression severity among patients, but no major negative changes in structure or function were observed over the study intervals.

Serous business: Delineating the broad spectrum of diseases with subretinal fluid in the macula

Elon H. C. van Dijk et al.

Summary: This manuscript categorizes a variety of ocular diseases that may cause subretinal fluid accumulation in the macula, including neovascular diseases, inflammatory diseases, and ocular tumors. Distinguishing between these diseases and CSC can be challenging, but obtaining the correct diagnosis is crucial for immediate therapeutic and prognostic consequences.

A duplication on chromosome 16q12 affecting the IRXB gene cluster is associated with autosomal dominant cone dystrophy with early tritanopic color vision defect

Susanne Kohl et al.

Summary: Cone dystrophies are a rare subgroup of inherited retinal dystrophies characterized by color vision defects and visual impairment. A locus for autosomal dominant cone dystrophy on chromosome 16q12 was identified, suggesting a misregulation of the IRXB gene cluster.

Novel variants in GUCY2D causing retinopathy and the genotype-phenotype correlation

Zhen Yi et al.

Summary: In this study, twelve novel PPVs in GUCY2D (including a novel large-scale deletion) were identified. Most (32/52, 61.5%) of causative GUCY2D variants were missense. Progressive development of macular atrophy, cone dysfunction, visual impairment, and myopia are four major characteristics of GUCY2D-associated ADCORD. Normal fundus, roving nystagmus, and hypermetropia in early age are common findings specific to GUCY2D-associated ARLCA. The obtained data in this study will be of value in counselling patients and designing future therapeutic approaches.
