Modeling the Adsorption of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons on Graphynes: An Improved Lennard-Jones Formulation

Anto James et al.

Summary: Research on modeling noncovalent interactions in the adsorption of PAHs on graphene and other two-dimensional materials is actively pursued. The accuracy of the parametrization scheme for the improved Lennard-Jones potential is assessed by comparing the predicted adsorption features with electronic structure calculations. The estimated interlayer cohesion energies for GYs with graphene range from 25-50 meV/atom.

Li nucleation on the graphite anode under potential control in Li-ion batteries

Arihant Bhandari et al.

Summary: In this study, the nucleation and growth of Li clusters on the graphite anode in Li-ion batteries were investigated using theoretical calculations. The results showed that the growth of clusters is influenced by the applied voltage and the lithiation level of the graphite. The zigzag edge termination and lithiated graphite were found to be more prone to nucleation and growth. Additionally, the surrounding electrolyte environment plays a significant role in the nucleation process.

Towards prediction of ordered phases in rechargeable battery chemistry via group-subgroup transformation

Yunbing Ran et al.

Summary: In this study, a group-subgroup transformation method was utilized to predict ordered ground states, successfully reproducing a series of Li-Co-O phases and identifying the stablest dilute phase Li-C6 in Li-ion intercalated graphite. Furthermore, the Li/La/vacancy ordering in Li3xLa2/3-xTiO3 was resolved to explain the observed Li-ion diffusion anisotropy, providing important insights into rechargeable battery chemistry.

Voltage hysteresis during lithiation/delithiation of graphite associated with meta-stable carbon stackings

Michael Peter Mercer et al.

Summary: The study reveals that graphite in Li-ion batteries exhibits hysteresis in OCV between charge and discharge processes, and that OCV is actually history dependent. A residual hysteresis is identified through first-principles calculations and temperature-controlled electrochemical measurements, showing differences in phase succession and Li disorder across planes. This residual hysteresis persists even at elevated temperatures and is associated with different host lattice stackings of carbon.
