Low-dose lidocaine attenuates fentanyl-induced cough: A double-blind randomized controlled trial

Nuanwan Phuvachoterojanaphokin et al.

Summary: The study aimed to determine the efficacy of different low doses of lidocaine in reducing fentanyl-induced cough (FIC). The results showed that intravenous administration of lidocaine at a dose of 0.25 mg/kg two minutes before fentanyl injection was the most effective in suppressing FIC and can be applied in daily practice. Risk factors for FIC were found to be age below 40 years and non-smoking, regardless of sex and underlying disease.
