New BPS solitons in N=4 gauged supergravity and black holes in Einstein-Yang-Mills-dilaton theory

Fabrizio Canfora et al.

Summary: In this paper, we revisit the problem of finding BPS solutions in N = 4 SU (2) x SU (2) gauged supergravity. We report a new supersymmetric solution in the Abelian sector and a new solution whose supersymmetric nature was overlooked in the previous literature. Moving to the non-Abelian sector, we construct electric-meronic and double-meron solutions, which lead to singular 1/4 BPS configurations. We also modify the self-interaction of the scalar and construct exact black holes with interesting causal structures and asymptotic behavior.

Cooking pasta with Lie groups

S. L. Cacciatori et al.

Summary: In this study, we extend the (gauged) Skyrme model to the case where the global isospin group is a generic compact connected Lie group. We analyze the field equations in (3+1) dimensions from a group theory perspective. By embedding three-dimensional simple Lie groups into the Lie group G, several solutions can be constructed, which represent the nuclear pasta state configurations of nuclear matter at low energy.

Four-dimensional regular black strings in bilocal gravity

C. R. Muniz et al.

Summary: In this paper, the authors obtain a static black string solution for a bilocal gravitational source in 3+1 dimensions. The solution is regular at the origin and approaches the ordinary static uncharged black string solution of general relativity asympotically. It allows the existence of an event horizon and an internal horizon depending on the mass density. The authors also find a mass remnant associated with a vanishing Hawking temperature. To stabilize the solution, a perfect cosmological fluid with state parameter omega > -1 needs to be present throughout space. However, the energy conditions do not rule out the presence of exotic matter near the black string. Additionally, the authors find the stationary counterpart of the solution and analyze the behavior of the horizons based on the mass and angular momentum of the spinning object.

Analytic meronic black holes, gravitating solitons, and higher-spins in the Einstein SU(N)-Yang-Mills theory

Fabrizio Canfora et al.

Summary: The study explores meronic black holes and solitons in the Einstein SU(N)-Yang-Mills theory, finding analytical solutions and demonstrating the impact of N values on black hole thermodynamics and gravitational spin from isospin effect. The analysis reveals that meronic black holes can be distinguished from colored black holes by examining the spin from isospin effect, and fields of arbitrary high spin can be constructed using nonembedded ansatz for SU(N) and the spin from isospin effect without manually introducing higher spin fields. Additionally, an interesting difference in the spin from isospin effect between D = 4 and D = 5 is uncovered.

Parallel waves in Einstein-nonlinear sigma models

Beatrice Bonga et al.

Summary: We study a family of solutions of Einstein-nonlinear sigma models with S-2 and SU(2) similar to S-3 target manifolds. In the S-2 case, the solutions are smooth everywhere, are free of conical singularities, and approach asymptotically the metric of a cosmic string, with a mass per length that is proportional to the absolute value of the winding number from topological spheres onto the target S-2. This gives an interesting example of a relation between a mass and a topological charge. The case with target SU(2) generalizes the stationary solution found in Canfora et al.Eur. Phys. J. C 81, 55 (2021) to parallel waves with a nonplanar wave front W. We prove that these W-fronted parallel waves are subquadratic in the classification in Flores et al.Classical Quantum Gravity 20, 2275 (2003) and thus are causally well behaved. These spacetimes have a nonvanishing baryon current and their geometry has many striking features.

Gravitating superconducting solitons in the (3+1)-dimensional Einstein gauged non-linear σ-model

Fabrizio Canfora et al.

Summary: This paper presents the first analytic examples of (3+1) -dimensional self-gravitating regular cosmic tube solutions which are superconducting and free of curvature singularities. The solutions resemble a boosted cosmic string with an angular defect at large distances from the axis, and near the axis, they can be singularity free. The solutions can behave as superconductors and carry a persistent current tied to their topological charge.

Analytic multi-Baryonic solutions in the SU(N)-Skyrme model at finite density

Sergio L. Cacciatori et al.

Summary: In this study, explicit analytic solutions of the SU(N)-Skyrme model were constructed to describe different phases of nuclear pasta at finite volume in (3 + 1) dimensions, including baryonic tubes and baryonic layers. The total energy of both configurations was computed, revealing different preferences at varying densities, with configurations favoring N = 2 light flavors at lower densities and N = 3 at higher densities. It was also demonstrated that in the high density regime, baryonic layers were favored, while baryonic tubes were favored at low densities, with the integrability property of the configurations remaining intact despite subleading corrections to the Skyrme model.

Analytic non-Abelian gravitating solitons in the Einstein-Yang-Mills-Higgs theory and transitions between them

Fabrizio Canfora et al.

Summary: The paper presents two analytic examples of globally regular non-Abelian gravitating solitons in the Einstein-Yang-Mills-Higgs theory, comparing the characteristics of type I and type II solitons and discussing the influence of their entropies and the vacuum expectation value of the Higgs field on the phases of the system. Furthermore, it is found that the difference in degeneracies between the solutions of type I and type II in the Klein-Gordon equation for non-Abelian gravitating solitons can be used to describe the four-dimensional Quantum Hall Effect.

Quasitopological electromagnetism: Reissner-Nordstrom black strings in Einstein and Lovelock gravities

Adolfo Cisterna et al.

Summary: In this work, consistent compactifications of Einstein-Maxwell and Einstein-Maxwell-Lovelock theories are provided on direct product spacetimes, with specific flux distribution of p-forms over the internal manifold. The dynamics of the p-forms are controlled by interactions with curvature tensor and electromagnetic field, leading to the construction of homogenously charged black p-branes in the corresponding compactified theories.

General relativity from Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity

Fabrizio Canfora et al.

Summary: In this work, it was demonstrated that Einstein gravity in four dimensions can be consistently obtained through the compactification of a higher curvature Lovelock theory in dimension D = 4 + p (p >= 1). The compactification is performed without the need for fine tuning between coupling constants. This process involves dressing the internal manifold with suitable forms and constructing various black string/p-branes solutions.

Crystals of gauged solitons, force-free plasma, and resurgence

Gonzalo Barriga et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the (3 + 1)-dimensional gauged nonlinear sigma model minimally coupled to a U(1) gauge field has analytic solutions representing gauged solitons with crystalline structures generating persistent currents at finite baryon density, where the electromagnetic field forms a force-free plasma. Despite the nonintegrable nature of the theory, perturbations of these gauged solitons allow the identification of a proper resurgent parameter, with some perturbations related to the Lame operator. The band energy spectrum for different theory parameters show modulated band gaps, with electromagnetic perturbations interacting with the soliton background through an effective two-dimensional periodic potential. Comparisons are made with crystal solutions of the (1 + 1)-dimensional Gross-Neveu model.

Pion crystals hosting topologically stable baryons

Summary: In this study, we constructed analytical (3 + 1)-dimensional inhomogeneous and topologically nontrivial pion systems using chiral perturbation theory. The inhomogeneous configurations of the pion fields are characterized by a nonvanishing topological charge that corresponds to baryons surrounded by a cloud of pions. The system supports a topologically protected persistent superflow, where the superflow becomes an electromagnetic supercurrent when the electromagnetic field is present.
