EVOLUTION OF INVISIBLE Au IN ARSENIAN PYRITE IN CARLIN-TYPE Au DEPOSITS

Qing-Lin Liang et al.

Summary: Carlin-type Au deposits are characterized by high concentrations of invisible gold in arsenian pyrite, which was found to be present primarily in high-grade Au deposits but with variations in crystal structure between regions. The formation of Au-bearing nanoparticles in arsenian pyrite is attributed to rapid crystallization in these deposits, with post-ore magmatic events leading to the redistribution of trace elements and the formation of nanometer-sized fluid inclusions. The presence of predominantly ionic bonded Au in arsenian pyrite indicates that ore fluids were not saturated in gold during the formation of these deposits.

Revisiting Ediacaran sulfur isotope chemostratigraphy with in situ nanoSIMS analysis of sedimentary pyrite

Wei Wang et al.

Summary: The reconstructions of ancient sulfur cycling and redox conditions often rely on sulfur isotope measurements of sedimentary rocks and minerals. The Ediacaran strata show a wide range of values in sulfur isotope differences between carbonate-associated sulfate and sedimentary pyrite, indicating changes in marine sulfate reservoir size in space and time. However, bulk measurements of sedimentary pyrite could be misleading due to different formation processes, leading to a mixed signal of syndepositional and diagenetic processes.

A reassessment of the quasi-simultaneous arrival effect in secondary ion mass spectrometry

Ryan Ogliore et al.

Summary: Quasi-simultaneous arrival (QSA) effects in secondary ion mass spectrometry can introduce mass-independent inaccuracies in isotope measurements. The Poisson statistical model is insufficient to explain most experimental data, and a closer examination using pulse-height distributions (PHDs) and time-series measurements reveals inconsistencies with the Poisson model. Corrections for QSA using an emission-transmission-detection model are complex, with standards-based correction being the most practical approach to minimize inaccuracies.

Tracing sulfur sources in the crust via SIMS measurements of sulfur isotopes in apatite

Johannes Hammerli et al.

Summary: The study introduces a refined method for acquiring sulfur isotope compositions in apatite via SIMS, identifying four new primary reference materials. Under optimized conditions, SIMS analysis can reproduce S isotope values within 1‰ for other reference materials and apatite samples. Additionally, the study demonstrates the ability of apatite to record diverse sulfur isotope signatures, making it a key candidate for tracing sulfur source reservoirs and tracking magmatic-hydrothermal fluid pathways in various geological settings.

Submicron spatial resolution Pb-Pb and U-Pb dating by using a NanoSIMS equipped with the new radio-frequency ion source

Jia-Long Hao et al.

Summary: This paper presents a novel Pb-Pb and U-Pb analytical method at a sub-micron scale using a NanoSIMS with a new RF ion source. The technique allows for high spatial resolution but may introduce depth effects, requiring adjustments in the scan area to eliminate mass fractionation. Results from zircon and lunar samples are in good agreement with reference ages within analytical uncertainties.
