Towards suppressing the polysulfide-shuttle behavior in lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries, a facile functional group has strategically been developed on the commercial polypropylene (PP) battery separator through a sequence of hydroxylating, grafting, and hydrolyzing processes. The Li-S cells with the modified PP separator shows significantly enhanced cyclability.
