Manipulation of current rectification in van der Waals ferroionic CuInP2S6

Xingan Jiang et al.

Summary: This study reports a single-phase self-rectifying memristor based on CuInP2S6, which has continuously tunable current rectifying feature. The material can dynamically control the current flow and device performance by controlling the synergistic effect of Cu+ ions migration and interfacial Schottky barrier, making it a promising candidate for future smart memristors.

Unraveling Strain Gradient Induced Electromechanical Coupling in Twisted Double Bilayer Graphene Moire Superlattices

Yuhao Li et al.

Summary: A methodology is developed to extract intrinsic moire flexoelectricity in 2D materials with small twist angles, using twisted double bilayer graphene as a model system. The study reveals significant flexoelectric response at domain walls and confirms theoretical calculations, providing insights into engineered symmetry breaking in centrosymmetric materials within van der Waals moire superlattices.

Direct and Converse Flexoelectricity in Two-Dimensional Materials

Matteo Springolo et al.

Summary: In this paper, we calculate the flexoelectric response of 2D materials fully from first principles, and identify two distinct contributions of purely electronic and lattice-mediated nature. We determine a key metric term within the former, consisting of the quadrupolar moment of the unperturbed charge density, and propose a simple continuum model to connect our findings with experimental measurements of the converse flexoelectric effect.

Strain fields in twisted bilayer graphene

Nathanael P. Kazmierczak et al.

Summary: Twisted bilayer graphene exhibits two-regime reconstruction mechanics based on twist angle, with applied heterostrain accumulating anisotropically in saddle-point regions to generate distinctive striped strain phases. Nanoscale spatial fluctuations in twist angle and uniaxial heterostrain were statistically evaluated, revealing the prevalence of short-range disorder in moire heterostructures. This study provides insights into the twist-angle-dependent electronic behavior and structural relaxation, disorder, and strain in moire materials.

Interfacial ferroelectricity by van der Waals sliding

M. Vizner Stern et al.

Summary: In this study, a stable ferroelectric order was discovered at the interface between two naturally grown flakes of hexagonal boron nitride, where the flakes were stacked in a non-centrosymmetric parallel orientation. Reversible polarization switching coupled with lateral sliding was achieved by scanning a biased tip above the surface.
