A bioprosthetic heart valve material prepared by copolymerization of 2-Amino-4-pentanoic acid modified pericardium and N, N-Dimethylacrylamide

Kailei Ding et al.

Summary: Bioprosthetic heart valve thrombosis (BHVT) has become increasingly common and can cause valve motion abnormalities requiring reoperation. Current modifications of bioprosthetic heart valves (BHVs) focus on improving anti-calcification properties, but improving anti-thrombogenicity and crosslinking efficiency simultaneously is challenging. This study presents a method that combines improved hemocompatibility, crosslinking efficiency, cytocompatibility, and anti-calcification properties for BHVs.

Altered Proinflammatory Responses to Polyelectrolyte Multilayer Coatings Are Associated with Differences in Protein Adsorption and Wettability

Florian Billing et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of changes in surface wettability on protein adsorption and immune response by developing polyelectrolyte multilayer (PEM) coatings with different surface properties. The results showed that a more hydrophobic coating led to a stronger inflammatory response, while a more hydrophilic coating resulted in a milder immune response. Analysis of protein adsorption patterns and cytokine production provided insights into the interplay between material properties and immune responses, which could guide the rational design of biomaterials.

Multi-scale coarse-grained molecular dynamics simulation to investigate the thermo-mechanical behavior of shape-memory polyurethane copolymers

Sungwoo Park et al.

Summary: Shape-memory polyurethanes (SMPUs) are smart semi-crystalline polymers with heat-induced shape memory. A study using a coarse-grained (CG) molecular dynamics (MD) model found that the ratio of hard to soft segments in SMPU copolymers is crucial for shape-memory performance, and that CG modeling can capture mesoscale phenomena like polymer crystallization. Additionally, investigating the effects of hard-segment content on thermo-elastic behavior and shape-memory properties of SMPU copolymers revealed significant impacts on macroscopic shape-memory behavior.
