A Fast Local Balanced Label Diffusion Algorithm for Community Detection in Social Networks

Hamid Roghani et al.

Summary: Community detection is a challenge in social network analysis, and a fast and accurate algorithm with low time complexity is essential for large-scale networks. This study proposes a fast community detection algorithm called LBLD, which assigns node importance scores based on a new local similarity measure. The algorithm then selects important nodes as initial rough cores and expands communities through label diffusion. Experiments on real-world and synthetic networks show that the LBLD method outperforms other algorithms in terms of convergence speed and accuracy.

A Survey of Community Detection Approaches: From Statistical Modeling to Deep Learning

Di Jin et al.

Summary: Community detection is a fundamental task in network analysis, aiming to partition a network into sub-structures to reveal their latent functions. Traditional approaches utilize probabilistic graphical models, while new approaches use deep learning to convert networked data into low dimensional representation. There is a lack of understanding of the theoretical and methodological underpinnings of community detection, which is critical for the future development of network analysis.

Managing communities in decentralised social environments

Barbara Guidi et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a distributed protocol DISCO for detecting and managing communities in a distributed dynamic environment, specifically in Decentralised Online Social Networks (DOSNs). DISCO is based on a Temporal Trade-off approach and utilizes super-peers for community management. The paper evaluates DISCO using a dataset from Facebook and demonstrates its effectiveness in highly dynamic and distributed environments.

Robust Detection of Link Communities With Summary Description in Social Networks

Di Jin et al.

Summary: The study discusses the issues of community detection in real networks and proposes a new Bayesian probabilistic approach to address these challenges. By exploring the correlation between communities and topics, the new method aims to discover link communities and extract semantically meaningful community summaries simultaneously. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the new approach and its ability to provide rich explanations through multiple topical summaries per community if desired.
