Ammonia-Oxidizing Bacterial Communities in Tilapia Pond Systems and the Influencing Factors

Limin Fan et al.

Summary: This study investigated ammonia-oxidizing bacterial communities in water and surface sediments of three tilapia ponds and found that the abundance and diversity of these bacterial communities were influenced by monthly variations in the water and sediment differences among the ponds. The main factors affecting the bacterial communities in the water were total nitrogen, nitrate, total phosphorus, and sulphate, while total phosphorus was the main influencing factor in the sediments.

Ecological Conditions of the Lower Dniester and Some Indicators for Assessment of the Hydropower Impact

Svitlana Kovalyshyna et al.

Summary: The Dniester River's water content has decreased due to a combination of reduced precipitation, increased annual air temperature, and extensive hydroelectric construction, causing shifts in nutrient concentrations and biological communities over different time scales. While nutrient concentrations have stabilized in recent years, they remain higher than during natural flow periods but lower than peak eutrophication levels in the past. The construction of reservoirs has led to a long-term decline in silica concentrations, influencing the ecological status of the river. Impacts of hydroelectric plants are evident in changes to phytoplankton composition, zooplankton abundance, and benthic community structure. Overall, the water quality of the river is characterized as moderately polluted, with macrozoobenthos indexes indicating low quality conditions.

Process design and validation of a new mixed eluent for leaching Cd, Cr, Pb, Cu, Ni, and Zn from heavy metal-polluted soil

Yuyan Zhao et al.

Summary: Chemical leaching, using a mixed eluent of EDDS + FeCl3, showed significant advantages in simultaneously removing multiple heavy metals from contaminated soil. Adjusting the concentration, pH conditions, and mass ratio of the mixed eluent can improve the leaching efficiency for different soil types and target elements. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy confirmed that the enhanced chelating ability of EDDS + FeCl3 was attributed to changes in the functional groups in the solution, making it a potential feasible strategy for soil remediation.
