Indirect measurement of the (n, γ) 127Sb cross section

F. Pogliano et al.

Summary: This study presents an indirect measurement for the Maxwellian-averaged cross section of Sb-126(n, gamma) reaction and extracts the nuclear level density and gamma-ray strength function of Sb-127. The experimental results show good agreement with some libraries, but significant discrepancies with the ENDF/B-VIII.0 library.

Modified Brink-Axel hypothesis for astrophysical Gamow-Teller transitions

Raul A. Herrera et al.

Summary: Weak interaction charged current transition strengths from highly excited nuclear states are essential for accurately modeling complex object composition and dynamics, but are challenging to obtain. Researchers present numerical evidence for a modified local Brink-Axel hypothesis for Gamow-Teller transitions in pf-shell nuclei relevant to astrophysical applications. This modified hypothesis allows for computing accurate thermal weak transition rates for medium-mass nuclei at temperatures occurring in stellar cores near collapse.

The γ-ray energy response of the Oslo Scintillator Array OSCAR

F. Zeiser et al.

Summary: The new Oslo Scintillator Array (OSCAR) at the Oslo Cyclotron Laboratory (OCL) consists of 30 LaBr3(Ce) detectors used for gamma-ray spectroscopy. Response functions for gamma rays up to 20 MeV were simulated with Geant4, and data on resolution, total, and full-energy peak efficiencies were extracted. Results showed good agreement with calibration sources and experimental gamma-ray spectra.

Comprehensive Test of the Brink-Axel Hypothesis in the Energy Region of the Pygmy Dipole Resonance

M. Markova et al.

Summary: Three independent experimental methods were used to address the validity of the Brink-Axel hypothesis for 116,120,124Sn below the neutron separation energy. The gamma-ray strength functions extracted from different methods demonstrated excellent agreement, indicating the applicability of the hypothesis in the energy region of the pygmy dipole resonance in heavy nuclei.

A new software implementation of the Oslo method with rigorous statistical uncertainty propagation

Jorgen E. Midtbo et al.

Summary: The paper presents a new software implementation of the Oslo method, OMpy, which includes theoretical basis, essential equations, and new functionalities like propagating uncertainties using Monte Carlo approach. The software simultaneously normalizes level density and gamma-ray strength function, preserving all correlations, and is validated by analyzing a synthetic spectrum.

Independent normalization for γ-ray strength functions: The shape method

M. Wiedeking et al.

Summary: The shape method is a novel approach to obtain the functional form of the gamma-ray strength function, and to simultaneously determine the slope of the nuclear level density. Utilizing primary gamma-ray transitions, the shape method has been successfully applied to representative cases demonstrating the retention of the functional form of the gamma SF.
