On the Security of Bluetooth Low Energy in Two Consumer Wearable Heart Rate Monitors/Sensing Devices

Yesem Kurt Peker et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the security features in Bluetooth LE standards and evaluates the implementation of these features in two BLE wearable devices and a BLE keyboard. It found that some manufacturers fail to properly implement the security mechanisms, which could lead to security and privacy issues for consumers. The study proposes a Bluetooth Security Facts Label (BSFL) to inform users about the security provisions of Bluetooth/BLE enabled devices.

Design and implementation of a hybrid FLC plus PID controller for pressure control of sleep devices

Adem Golcuk

Summary: Sleep apnea is a breathing disorder that requires the use of sleep devices to maintain sleep quality. This study designed PID controller, FLC, and HFLCPIDC to control the pressure of sleep devices, and found that FLC and HFLCPIDC were more effective in balancing the pressure output compared to the PID controller.

Wearable sensor data and self-reported symptoms for COVID-19 detection

Giorgio Quer et al.

Summary: The study developed a smartphone app that combines smartwatch and activity tracker data to monitor COVID-19 infection continuously. The combination of symptom and sensor data showed better performance in distinguishing COVID-19 positive from negative cases compared to models that consider symptoms alone. This suggests that passive data collection from personal sensors may complement virus testing methods.
