Asymptotic structure with a positive cosmological constant

Francisco Fernandez-Alvarez et al.

Summary: This paper examines the asymptotic structure of space-times with a non-negative cosmological constant, focusing on the case of Λ > 0. By utilizing tidal energies and asymptotic super-Poynting vectors computed from the rescaled Bel-Robinson tensor, a criterion for the existence or absence of gravitational radiation at infinity is provided, taking into consideration the full set of physically relevant properties encoded in (f, h(ab), D-ab). Additionally, the paper introduces radiation and no-incoming radiation criteria based on triplet (f, h(ab), D-ab) and news-like tensors associated with two-dimensional cross-sections of f, connecting these concepts with the directional structure of the gravitational field and asymptotic symmetries.

A general framework for gravitational charges and holographic renormalization

Venkatesa Chandrasekaran et al.

Summary: This study presents a general framework for constructing charges associated with diffeomorphisms in gravitational theories, using a novel derivation approach. The framework successfully combines contributions from boundaries and corner terms in the expressions for the charges, and eliminates ambiguity through the variational principle. Additionally, by applying holographic renormalization, finite charges and fluxes can be obtained to study larger asymptotic symmetry groups.

Hamiltonian charges in the asymptotically de Sitter spacetimes

Maciej Kolanowski et al.

Summary: The paper generalizes the concept of 'conserved' charges given by Wald and Zoupas to asymptotically de Sitter spacetimes, which surprisingly results in a less ambiguous construction compared to asymptotically flat contexts. The physical meaning of these charges can be understood through an expansion around exact solutions with Killing vectors, with a focus on defining energy and angular momenta of gravitational waves on specific backgrounds. The obtained expressions have a correct limit as Lambda -> 0, and the paper also discusses the relationship between this approach and one based on the canonical phase space of initial data at I+.

On the canonical energy of weak gravitational fields with a cosmological constant Λ∈R

P. T. Chrusciel et al.

Summary: The study analyzes the canonical energy of vacuum linearized gravitational fields on light cones in different backgrounds, showing that the energy diverges when Λ>0 but a renormalized formula with well defined flux is obtained. It is also demonstrated that the renormalized energy in a specific gauge coincides with the quadratization of the generalized Trautman-Bondi mass.

Charge algebra in Al(A)dSn spacetimes

Adrien Fiorucci et al.

Summary: The gravitational charge algebra of generic asymptotically locally (A)dS spacetimes is derived in n dimensions without further boundary conditions, resulting in finite expressions after removing divergences using holographic renormalization procedure. The charges associated with boundary diffeomorphisms are generally non-vanishing, non-integrable, and not conserved, while those associated with boundary Weyl rescalings are non-vanishing only in odd dimensions, with a field-dependent 2-cocycle present. The analysis is specialized to different boundary conditions, such as Dirichlet boundary conditions and leaky boundary conditions, leading to various results such as the Brown-Henneaux central extension and the Lambda-BMS asymptotic symmetry group. In the flat limit, the asymptotic symmetry group contracts to the BMS group in n dimensions.
