Local Spatial Polarization Induced Efficient Charge Separation of Squaraine-Linked COF for Enhanced Photocatalytic Performance

Haijie Ben et al.

Summary: Local charge polarization induced by intrinsic zwitterionic resonance structure effectively redistributes and separates charge carriers in photocatalysts, leading to enhanced photocatalytic activities. The novel SQ-COF-1 catalyst with the largest local polarization exhibits superior visible-light-driven photocatalytic performance compared to SQ-COF-2, PDA-COF, and common polymeric carbon nitride photocatalyst. This work presents a promising protocol for engineering charge behavior to advance the design of high-performance photocatalytic materials in the future.

Xi Lin et al.

Summary: This study reports a facile nanofiber synthesis method for fabricating flexible mesoporous black Nb2O5 nanofiber catalysts, which exhibit high selectivity and conversion efficiency in visible-light-driven photocatalytic CO2 reduction into CH4. The catalysts contain abundant oxygen-vacancies and unsaturated Nb dual-sites, which enhance light absorption and CO2 adsorption, leading to the spontaneous conversion of CO* into *CHO. These catalysts achieve a selectivity of 64.8% for CH4 production with a high evolution rate under visible-light, without the use of sacrificial agents and photosensitizers. The flexible catalyst films also demonstrate promising applications in devices.

Boosting photocatalytic nitrogen reduction to ammonia by dual defective -C=N and K-doping sites on graphitic carbon nitride nanorod arrays

Guimei Liu et al.

Summary: Bi-defective g-C3N4 nanorod arrays with enhanced light absorption were used for photocatalytic N2 reduction. The presence of dual defects without any cocatalysts resulted in the highest NH3 production rate of 23.5 mmol/(h.g(cat)), which is two orders higher than the counterpart. The-C equivalent to N site plays a crucial role in N2 activation through electron donation, while cations like K trap electrons. The combination of dual defects and nanoarray configuration creates an electron-dominated structure to enhance charge separation and light absorption, overcoming the energy barrier for activating inert nitrogen.
