Stability of (N+1)-body fermion clusters in a multiband Hubbard model

M. Iskin et al.

Summary: In this paper, a variational approach is used to derive a set of coupled integral equations for the bound states in a multiband Hubbard Hamiltonian with attractive on-site interaction. The derived equations are applied to the one-dimensional sawtooth lattice, revealing the presence of tetramer states and their quasiflat dispersion in a flat band. Density-matrix renormalization-group simulations and exact diagonalization results suggest the presence of larger multimers with lower binding energies for N={4,5,...,10}, potentially without an upper bound on N. These findings have important implications for the understanding of many-body phenomena in flat-band systems.

Pairs, trimers, and BCS-BEC crossover near a flat band: Sawtooth lattice

Giuliano Orso et al.

Summary: In this paper, we investigate the attractive Fermi-Hubbard model on the one-dimensional sawtooth lattice and find that the multiband nature of the system substantially modifies the physics of the BCS-BEC crossover. We also uncover the existence of three-body bound states in the sawtooth lattice, which is of great importance.

Three-body problem in a multiband Hubbard model

M. Iskin

Summary: This study explores the three-body problem in a generic multiband lattice, obtaining the exact solution of coupled integral equations through a variational approach and simplifying it to an eigenvalue problem. It reveals that energetically stable trimers are allowed in a two-band setting, with trimers having a nearly flat dispersion when formed in a flat band.

Effective-mass tensor of the two-body bound states and the quantum-metric tensor of the underlying Bloch states in multiband lattices

M. Iskin

Summary: By considering the on-site attraction between spin-up and spin-down fermions in a multiband tight-binding lattice, this study investigates the two-body spectrum and derives an exact relationship between the inverse of the effective-mass tensor of the lowest bound states and the quantum-metric tensor of the underlying Bloch states.

Two-body problem in a multiband lattice and the role of quantum geometry

M. Iskin

Summary: This study focuses on the two-body problem in a periodic potential, specifically examining the bound-state dispersion of a fermion with spin-up interacting with a fermion with spin-down through short-range attractive interaction. By using a variational approach, the exact solution of the dispersion is derived in the form of self-consistency equations, applied to tight-binding Hamiltonians with on-site interactions. Special attention is given to bipartite lattices with time-reversal symmetry, showing that the lowest-energy bound states disperse quadratically with momentum, with the effective mass tensor partially controlled by the quantum metric tensor of the underlying Bloch states. The theory is applied to the Mielke checkerboard lattice, studying the role of interband processes in producing a finite effective mass for bound states in a nonisolated flat band.
