Electronic properties and spintronic applications of r-N-graphyne nanoribbons

Chengke Xu et al.

Summary: Using density functional theory (DFT) and non-equilibrium Green's function (NEGF), this study investigates the electronic band structures and transport properties of zigzag rhombic N-graphyne nanoribbons (ZrNGYNRs). The results reveal metallic band structures in ZrNGYNRs with different symmetries and distinct spin splitting in the ferromagnetic state, suggesting potential applications in nanoelectronics.

Structural and electronic properties of nonconventional α-graphyne nanocarbons

Thaina Araujo Oliveira et al.

Summary: In this study, a set of nonconventional graphyne lattices inspired by sp(2) nanocarbon sheets, known as haeckelites, is proposed and their electronic properties are investigated using density functional theory methods. These lattices exhibit stability and metallic nature, but differ significantly from the original haeckelites in terms of electronic properties.

Four-penta-graphenes: Novel two-dimensional fenestrane-based auxetic nanocarbon allotropes for nanoelectronics and optoelectronics

Mehmet Emin Kilic et al.

Summary: Based on first-principles calculations, this study proposes a new two-dimensional carbon allotrope called four-penta-graphenes (fPG), obtained by assembling fenestrane molecule unit. The fPG monolayers exhibit excellent dynamical, thermal, and mechanical stability, as well as diverse electronic properties. The strain engineering allows for flexible modulation of the band gap and band edge positions, enabling potential applications in nanoelectronics and optoelectronics.

Dependence of Tunneling Mechanism on Two-Dimensional Material Parameters: A High-Throughput Study

Wenhan Zhou et al.

Summary: In this study, the tunneling transport properties of 44 representative 2D materials were investigated through high-throughput first-principles calculations. An exponential scaling law was proposed to describe the relationship between subthreshold swings and reduced effective masses of 10-nm TFETs. The insights obtained in this study provide guidance for material screening in the construction of post-Moore 2D low-power transistors.

Electronic and magnetic properties of tripentaphene nanoribbons

Paloma Vieira Silva et al.

Summary: This study investigates the electronic properties of tripentaphene nanoribbons resulting from quantum confinement. The research finds that fully edge passivated tripentaphene nanoribbons are usually metallic with frontier states spread over the structure's inner region. Additionally, several semiconducting and half-metallic systems are found to be related to the presence of spin-polarized states. These findings are significant for understanding the relationship between physical properties and atomic structure details on tripentaphene nanoribbons, and for targeted applications in nanoelectronics and spintronics.

Electronic properties of 2D and 1D carbon allotropes based on a triphenylene structural unit

Mario Rocha dos Santos et al.

Summary: Several bottom-up chemical routes have been developed in recent years to synthesize new forms of nanocarbon by strategically selecting molecular precursors. Theoretical calculations have been conducted on 2D nanocarbon allotropes obtained from the fusion of triphenylene-like units through tetragonal rings. The electronic properties of the system have been investigated, showing that wide nanoribbons exhibit metallic behavior, while narrow 1D systems are semiconducting.
