Electrical switching of antiferromagnetic CoO | Pt across the Neel temperature

M. J. Grzybowski et al.

Summary: One of the key challenges in antiferromagnetic spintronics is the detection of the Neel vector state. High current densities used in electrical switching experiments make it difficult to differentiate between magnetic and thermal origins of electrical signals. To address this, a study of temperature dependence in the switching experiment with CoO | Pt devices is presented. It is shown that a pattern of spin Hall magnetoresistance, indicative of the magnetic origin of the signal, can be extracted for current pulses below the Neel temperature. These findings are confirmed by additional experiments in an external magnetic field.

Tunable Spin Hall Magnetoresistance in All-Antiferromagnetic Heterostructures

Summary: The spin Hall magnetoresistance (SMR) in all-antiferromagnetic heterostructures alpha-Fe2O3/Cr2O3 with Pt contacts is investigated. Different spin current behaviors are observed at different temperatures, and the SMR effect can be controlled by adjusting the thickness of the Cr2O3 layer.

Large unidirectional spin Hall and Rashba-Edelstein magnetoresistance in topological insulator/magnetic insulator heterostructures

Yang Lv et al.

Summary: Large unidirectional spin Hall and Rashba-Edelstein magnetoresistance is observed in magnetic insulator/topological insulator Y3Fe5O12/Bi2Se3 bilayers, which is of great importance for reading magnetization states in memory and logic devices. The magnitude of this magnetoresistance is about an order of magnitude higher than the highest values reported so far in all-metal bilayers. Polarized neutron reflectometry reveals a unique temperature-dependent magnetic intermediary layer and a proximity layer at the interfaces of the bilayers. A prototype memory device based on this bilayer structure is demonstrated, utilizing the unidirectional spin Hall and Rashba-Edelstein magnetoresistance for electrical readout of current-induced magnetization switching aided by a small Oersted field.

Spin Hall magnetoresistance in Pt/Cr2O3/YIG structure

Jingu Qin et al.

Summary: The temperature dependence of spin Hall magnetoresistance (SMR) was investigated in Pt/Cr2O3/Y3Fe5O12 structure. The SMR was not observed well below the Neel temperature of Cr2O3, and only a positive SMR was seen near the Neel temperature, tracking the YIG magnetic switching process. The high field magnetoresistance observed up to an external magnetic field of 20000 Oe is attributed to the Hanle magnetoresistance in Pt.
