Exotic interactions mediated by a non-Hermitian photonic bath

Federico Roccati et al.

Summary: Photon-mediated interaction between quantum emitters is an emerging field in quantum optics. Non-Hermitian physics, particularly in photonic lattices, challenges conventional theories and allows access to new physics. The study reveals that structured losses in the field can lead to exotic emission properties. Photons can mediate dissipative, fully non-reciprocal interactions between emitters, with the range depending on the loss rate.

Chiral quantum network with giant atoms

Xin Wang et al.

Summary: This paper proposed a novel method to realize chiral quantum networks by exploiting giant atom effects in superconducting quantum circuit platforms. By modulating the coupling points with time, the interaction becomes momentum-dependent, and giant atoms will chirally emit photons due to interference effects. The results demonstrate that high-fidelity state transfer between remote giant atoms can be realized.

Giant atoms with time-dependent couplings

Lei Du et al.

Summary: In this paper, we study the decay dynamics of a two-level giant atom coupled to a waveguide with time-dependent coupling strengths. In the non-Markovian regime, we find that the dynamics of the atom depend on the atom-waveguide coupling strengths at an earlier time, allowing for tailored decay dynamics and the possibility of stationary population revival. Additionally, we demonstrate the potential to simulate quantum Zeno and anti-Zeno effects in the giant-atom model with periodic coupling quenches.

Quantum Electrodynamics in a Topological Waveguide

Eunjong Kim et al.

Summary: Designing the energy-momentum relation of photons is crucial in optical phenomena and a new set of light-matter properties can be achieved by utilizing the topology of the photonic bath. This work experimentally investigates the properties of superconducting qubits coupled to a metamaterial waveguide based on a photonic analog of the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model, exploring topologically induced properties and enabling direct quantum control over topological edge states in finite waveguide systems. The study demonstrates the potential of topological waveguide-QED systems in synthesizing and studying many-body states with exotic long-range quantum correlations.

Charge-Noise Insensitive Chiral Photonic Interface for Waveguide Circuit QED

Yu-Xiang Zhang et al.

Summary: The proposed chiral photonic interface based on superconducting circuits offers wide bandwidth, rich tunability, and high tolerance to fabrication variations, making it attractive for fundamental studies of light-matter interactions and applications to quantum information processing. It consists of a core using Cooper-pair boxes (CPBs) to break time-reversal symmetry, and superconducting transmons that connect the core to a waveguide in a manner reminiscent of a giant atom. This design renders the interface insensitive to CPB charge noise and can be extended to realize a broadband fully passive on-chip circulator for microwave photons.

Light-Matter Interactions in Synthetic Magnetic Fields: Landau-Photon Polaritons

Daniele De Bernardis et al.

Summary: In this study, light-matter interactions in two-dimensional photonic systems with a synthetic magnetic field were investigated, leading to the formation of strongly coupled Landau-photon polaritons. The transitions of photonic modes from extended plane waves to circulating Landau levels had a significant impact on the resulting emitter-field dynamics, making it non-Markovian and chiral. These quasiparticles could be probed using advanced photonic lattices and may have various applications in quantum simulation of strongly interacting topological models.

Collapse and Revival of an Artificial Atom Coupled to a Structured Photonic Reservoir

Vinicius S. Ferreira et al.

Summary: This article investigates the non-Markovian dynamics of a superconducting qubit strongly coupled to a superconducting waveguide, showing that tuning the qubit into the spectral vicinity of the passband of the slow-light waveguide reservoir can lead to a significant change in the emission rate of the qubit and oscillatory energy relaxation. Furthermore, with the addition of a reflective boundary to the waveguide, revivals in the qubit population on a longer timescale and a crossover between Markovian and non-Markovian qubit emission dynamics are observed. The study demonstrates the potential for future exploration of multiqubit interactions and the generation of highly entangled states using structured reservoirs in a superconducting circuit platform.

Summary: This paper investigates the scattering behaviors of models with Λ-type atom and its giant-atom version in single-photon scatterings, revealing the special effects brought by chiral atom-waveguide couplings and giant-atom structure on frequency conversion and scattering behaviors.
