Development and pharmacokinetic evaluation of a self-nanoemulsifying drug delivery system for the oral delivery of cannabidiol

Lie Yun Kok et al.

Summary: The number of lipophilic drug candidates in pharmaceutical discovery pipelines has increased, leading to the need for improved formulation strategies. In this study, self-nanoemulsifying drug delivery systems (SNEDDS) were used to enhance the oral bioavailability of cannabidiol (CBD). The results showed that the SNEDDS formulations led to more rapid absorption and improved systemic exposure of CBD compared to traditional oil-based formulations.

Formulation of Cannabidiol in Colloidal Lipid Carriers

Nadine Monika Francke et al.

Summary: The study investigated the general processability of CBD in colloidal lipid carriers, finding that high drug loads could be achieved in various types of emulsions. CBD loading increased particle size and the density of the lipid matrix, with CBD being associated with the lipid core and droplet interface. CBD destabilized the emulsions, with phospholipid-stabilized emulsions showing better stability than poloxamer-stabilized ones. Pure CBD emulsions could be produced due to CBD's supercooling tendency.

Natural sesame oil is superior to pre-digested lipid formulations and purified triglycerides in promoting the intestinal lymphatic transport and systemic bioavailability of cannabidiol

Wanshan Feng et al.

Summary: Lipid-based formulations are important for delivering lipophilic drugs orally. A study on the use of pre-digested lipid formulations to improve intestinal lymphatic transport and oral bioavailability of CBD showed that natural sesame oil was more effective than pre-digested or purified forms. Further research is needed to explore the mechanisms involved in sesame oil's superior performance in oral absorption.

Validity of cycloheximide chylomicron flow blocking method for the evaluation of lymphatic transport of drugs

Pavel Rysanek et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the validity of the cycloheximide chylomicron flow blocking method for evaluating lymphatic transport of highly lipophilic model compounds. Results showed a significant overestimation of lymphatic transport extent for abiraterone and cinacalcet using this method.
