Chiral Luminescent Liquid Crystal with Multi-State-Reversibility: Breakthrough in Advanced Anti-Counterfeiting Materials

Yonghong Shi et al.

Summary: This study successfully constructs an advanced anti-counterfeiting material that can exhibit reflective color, fluorescence, and circularly polarized luminescence signal in three reversible modes, and can be easily distinguished by naked eyes due to different intensities under left- and right-handed circular polarized filters. The design and fabrication of this multi-mode anti-counterfeiting material provides a new concept for improving the security level in practical applications.

Precise Regulation of Distance between Associated Pyrene Units and Control of Emission Energy and Kinetics in Solid State

Jiaqiang Wang et al.

Summary: Various approaches have been explored to tune emission behaviors of organic luminogens, but precise regulation of distances between molecules in dimers is rarely reported. This study introduces a method to precisely control distances in dimers, and analyzes the pi-pi interactions with different distances between molecules. The results show that short distances and strong pi-pi interactions are essential for lowering excited-state energy and weakening delayed fluorescence.

Molecular insertion regulates the donor-acceptor interactions in cocrystals for the design of piezochromic luminescent materials

Chunguang Zhai et al.

Summary: Developing a universal strategy to design piezochromic luminescent materials with desirable properties remains challenging. Here, the authors report the insertion of a non-emissive molecule into a donor and acceptor binary cocrystal and realize desirable piezochromic luminescent properties by manipulation of intermolecular interactions between the donor and acceptor molecules. This strategy allows for continuous pressure-induced emission enhancement and blue shift in the emission wavelength.

Different molecular conformation and packing determining mechanochromism and room-temperature phosphorescence

Shuhui Li et al.

Summary: This study focused on the different optical properties resulting from different molecular packing modes in aggregates. The two polymorphs of DBTDO-DMAC exhibited distinct properties, with one showing mechanochromism and the other displaying room-temperature phosphorescence. Careful analyses revealed that the emissive behaviors are highly related to the molecular conformation and packing modes, providing guidance for designing other luminogens with similar properties.

Pressure-induced excimer formation and fluorescence enhancement of an anthracene derivative

Yuxiang Dai et al.

Summary: Excimer materials have been widely studied and applications in optoelectronic devices have generated significant interest. However, a thorough investigation of the entire process involved in excimer formation, enhancement, and annihilation in solid materials is still lacking. In this study, a new crystal based on an anthracene derivative was designed to examine the formation and evolution of an anthracene excimer under pressure. The results show that excimer intensity increases with pressure, reaching a maximum at 5.6 GPa.
