Testing the upper bound on the speed of scrambling with an analogue of Hawking radiation using trapped ions

Zehua Tian et al.

Summary: The Lyapunov exponent of a quantum system is found to be bounded by a specific condition, which has significant implications in various fields of physics. Researchers propose using a trapped ion as a platform to observe the scattering process and measure the out-of-time-ordered correlation function, in order to verify the saturation of this bound. The experimental results demonstrate that the trapped ion indeed satisfies this condition.

Confinement/deconfinement transition in the D0-brane matrix model - A signature of M-theory?

Georg Bergner et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigate the confinement/deconfinement transition in the DO-brane matrix model and its deformation numerically through lattice Monte Carlo simulations. Our findings confirm the general expectations from the dual string/M-theory picture for strong coupling. Furthermore, we suggest that these models offer an ideal framework for studying the Schwarzschild black hole, M-theory, and the parameter region of the phase transition between type IIA superstring theory and M-theory. Additionally, a detailed study of M-theory using lattice Monte Carlo simulations of the DO-brane matrix model may be feasible with smaller computational resources than previously anticipated.

Classical and quantum butterfly effect in nonlinear vector mechanics

Nikita Kolganov et al.

Summary: This study establishes the correspondence between classical and quantum butterfly effects in nonlinear vector mechanics with broken O(N) symmetry. The study analytically calculates the out-of-timeordered correlation functions and the quantum Lyapunov exponent in the large-N limit, and numerically estimates the classical Lyapunov exponent in the high-temperature limit. The results show that the Lyapunov exponents approximately coincide in both cases, indicating a similar behavior between classical and quantum systems.

Extremal chaos

Sandipan Kundu

Summary: This paper studies a class of maximally chaotic out-of-time-order correlators (OTOCs), and finds a unique analytic extension that saturates all the subleading chaos bounds. These OTOCs exhibit the feature of recovering the information of the initial perturbation at very late times. Furthermore, the extremally chaotic OTOC provides a Kallen-Lehmann-type representation for all OTOCs, enabling the identification of all analytic completions of maximal chaos as small deformations of extremal chaos.

Quantum mechanical out-of-time-ordered-correlators for the anharmonic (quartic) oscillator

Paul Romatschke

Summary: The study calculates OTOCs for the quantum mechanical anharmonic oscillator, showing that OTOCs exhibit periodic behavior at low temperatures and a rapid rise at early times followed by saturation at high temperatures. At high temperature, the spectral form factor decreases initially, rebounds, and then levels off with strong fluctuations.

The Generalized OTOC from Supersymmetric Quantum Mechanics-Study of Random Fluctuations from Eigenstate Representation of Correlation Functions

Kaushik Y. Bhagat et al.

Summary: The concept of the out-of-time-ordered correlation (OTOC) function is introduced as a strong theoretical probe of quantum randomness, with a general class defined to capture quantum randomness phenomena better. An equivalent formalism of computation using a general time-independent Hamiltonian for integrable Supersymmetric quantum systems is demonstrated, requiring consideration of two new correlators. By analyzing the Harmonic Oscillator and one-dimensional potential well models within the framework of Supersymmetry, distinct parameter dependences and time scales compared to non-Supersymmetric quantum mechanics are found. The consistency of the prescribed formalism in the classical limit is established through phase space averaged versions of OTOCs.

The multi-faceted inverted harmonic oscillator: Chaos and complexity

Arpan Bhattacharyya et al.

Summary: In this article, the inverted harmonic oscillator is probed using quantum chaos diagnostics such as OTOC and circuit complexity. The study includes analysis of OTOC for the displacement operator and computation of the full quantum Lyapunov spectrum for the inverted oscillator, revealing paired structure among the Lyapunov exponents. The complexity of the time evolved displacement operator is also computed using the Heisenberg group, displaying chaotic behavior, with analysis extended to N-inverted harmonic oscillators to study complexity at different timescales.
