Flowloop investigation into hydrate formation and slurry flow in the presence of micron-sized sand particles

Bohui Shi et al.

Summary: Hydrate flow assurance is crucial for the exploitation of natural gas hydrate reservoirs. However, the behaviors of hydrate formation and slurry flow in the presence of micron-sized sand particles are still unclear. This study performed experiments to investigate hydrate formation and slurry flow with micron-sized sand particles and calculated the formation kinetics parameters, derived the viscosity calculation method, and established the flow resistance coefficient calculation method.

Molecular insights into methane hydrate growth in the presence of wax molecules

Qingyun Liao et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of wax molecules on methane hydrate growth in waxy oil-water-hydrate systems using molecular dynamics simulations. The results show that different wax molecular structures have different effects on hydrate growth by adsorbing methane molecules and altering the structure of interface water molecules.

Near-wellbore fracture initiation and propagation induced by drilling fluid invasion during solid fluidization mining of submarine nature gas hydrate sediments

Hai-Yan Zhu et al.

Summary: The study used a combination of discrete element method and computational fluid dynamics to analyze wellbore instability caused by drilling fluid invasion into gas hydrate formations. Results indicated that in-situ stresses and overpressure directly impact drilling fluid invasion behavior. Lower hydrate saturation leads to easier formation of fluid flow channels and lower breakdown pressure, while higher hydrate saturation increases breakdown pressure, suggesting hydrates enhance mechanical properties of the formation.
