Intrinsic Ferromagnetism of Two-Dimensional (2D) MnO2 Revisited: A Many-Body Quantum Monte Carlo and DFT plus U Study

Daniel Wines et al.

Summary: In this study, different electronic structure methods were used to calculate the magnetic properties of monolayer MnO2. It was found that ferromagnetic ordering is more favorable than antiferromagnetic ordering, and a statistical bound on the magnetic exchange parameter was determined. Using an analytical model, an upper bound for the critical temperature of MnO2 was estimated, providing an accurate theoretical benchmark for the realization and development of future 2D magnetic devices.

Two-dimensional bipolar magnetic semiconductors with high Curie-temperature and electrically controllable spin polarization realized in exfoliated Cr(pyrazine)2 monolayers

Xiangyang Li et al.

Summary: This study proposes a method to achieve a two-dimensional magnetic semiconductor with room-temperature ferrimagnetism and controllable spin-polarization direction through exfoliation based on first-principles calculations. The exfoliated Cr(pyz)(2) monolayer exhibits strong d-p direct-exchange magnetic interaction, resulting in room-temperature ferrimagnetism, and can achieve half-metallic conduction with controllable spin-polarization through electrical doping.

Magnetic and phonon transport properties of two-dimensional room-temperature ferromagnet VSe2

Haohao Sheng et al.

Summary: The electronic, magnetic, and phonon transport properties of monolayer VSe2 can be systematically investigated and tuned by applying biaxial strain. The Curie temperature increases significantly with increasing strain, while the lattice thermal conductivity shows strong strain dependence. The magnetic anisotropy energy is mainly contributed by the interaction between Vdxy orbital and V-d(x2-y2) orbital.

Bipolar magnetic semiconducting behavior in VNbRuAl

Jadupati Nag et al.

Summary: This study reports the theoretical prediction and experimental data of a class of spintronic materials called bipolar magnetic semiconductors (BMSs), which have unique band structure suitable for spin-transport-based applications. The quaternary Heusler alloy VNbRuAl is found to possess the band structure of a BMS, with transport measurements confirming semiconducting behavior and hints of fully compensated ferrimagnetic behavior. Theoretical simulations indicate that the coexistence of BMS and fully compensated ferrimagnetic behavior is mainly due to partial B2 disorder in the structure.

Computing Curie temperature of two-dimensional ferromagnets in the presence of exchange anisotropy

Sabyasachi Tiwari et al.

Summary: This study compared three first-principles methods for calculating the Curie temperature in 2D ferromagnetic materials, finding discrepancies in results based on the level of exchange anisotropy. A simple formula was proposed for estimating the Curie temperature with high accuracy, and several high Curie temperature 2D ferromagnets were identified. Experimental comparison demonstrated the preference for Green's-function-based equations for small anisotropies and MC-based results for larger anisotropies.
