Effect of intramolecular charge transfer on nonlinear optical properties of chalcone derivatives: a visual description of the charge transfer process

Jidong Jia et al.

Summary: The study reveals that intramolecular charge transfer plays a significant role in the nonlinear optical properties of organic molecules. Different chalcone derivatives exhibit varied ultrafast charge transfer and long-lived charge transfer states, depending on the electron push-pull systems, affecting two-photon absorption and excited-state absorption performance. By enhancing the ICT performance, it is possible to improve the molecular ESA and offer a practical method to enhance the long-pulse response of organic materials.

Structural modulation of π-conjugated linkers in D-π-A dyes based on triphenylamine dicyanovinylene framework to explore the NLO properties

Muhammad Khalid et al.

Summary: A donor-pi-acceptor type series of Triphenylamine-dicyanovinylene-based chromophores (DPMN1-DPMN11) was theoretically designed by structurally tailoring pi-linkers of experimentally synthesized molecules DTTh and DTTz to exploit changes in optical properties and nonlinear optical behavior. Density functional theory (DFT) computations were used to investigate the influence of these structural modifications on NLO properties, revealing lower band gaps and broad absorption spectra in the visible region with remarkable NLO response. Additionally, chromophores containing imidazole in the second pi-linker showed greater hyperpolarizability compared to those containing pyrrole, indicating the potential for designing metal-free NLO materials for high-tech applications.
