Riemannian geometry of resonant optical responses

Junyeong Ahn et al.

Summary: This study establishes a general theory of Riemannian geometry for resonant optical processes by identifying transition dipole moment matrix elements as tangent vectors, showing that optical responses can generally be thought of as manifestations of the Riemannian geometry of quantum states.

Semiclassical response of disordered conductors: Extrinsic carrier velocity and spin and field-corrected collision integral

Rhonald Burgos Atencia et al.

Summary: This paper provides a general prescription for reformulating the semiclassical equations of motion for carriers in disordered conductors by using the quantum mechanical density matrix. The approach allows for averaging over impurity configurations and includes corrections to the semiclassical velocity and the expectation value of the spin operator. The prescription ensures that all vertex corrections present in diagrammatic treatments are taken into account.

Orbitronics: Orbital currents in solids

Dongwook Go et al.

Summary: Orbital currents, composed of electrons with finite orbital angular momentum, can be electrically generated and transported in a wide range of materials despite the effect of orbital quenching in the ground state. These currents play a fundamental role in phenomena like spin Hall effect and valley Hall effect, and have potential applications in inducing magnetization dynamics. This field of study, known as orbitronics, explores the use of orbital degree of freedom as an information carrier in solid-state devices.

Intrinsic Fermi-surface contribution to the bulk photovoltaic effect

Lingyuan Gao et al.

Summary: We studied the Fermi surface contribution to the nonlinear DC photocurrent at quadratic order in a spatially uniform optical field in the ultraclean limit. Our work presents a complete derivation for all contributions to nonlinear DC photocurrent and classifies them according to the polarization of light in the presence and absence of time-reversal symmetry. The response is proportional to the frequency of the driving field at low frequency, with its sign determined by the topological charge of the Weyl nodes and with its magnitude being comparable to the recently discovered quantized circular photogalvanic effect.

Light-induced static magnetization: Nonlinear Edelstein effect

Haowei Xu et al.

Summary: In this work, it is demonstrated theoretically and computationally that static magnetization can be generated through light in semiconductors, generalizing the Edelstein effect. Light-induced orbital magnetizations are found to be significantly greater than spin magnetizations, and different magnetic structures can be realized in multilayer materials under photon pumping. The relationship between the nonlinear Edelstein effect and other magneto-optic effects is also discussed.
