Implementing efficient selective quantum process tomography of superconducting quantum gates on IBM quantum experience

Akshay Gaikwad et al.

Summary: The researchers proposed a modified selective quantum process tomography (MSQPT) method to reduce the complexity and cost of experimental implementation. They mathematically reformulated the standard SQPT problem, designed a generalized quantum circuit and an efficient measurement strategy. The method was experimentally demonstrated on the IBM QX2 cloud quantum processor, selectively characterizing various quantum gates.

Projected Least-Squares Quantum Process Tomogra-phy

Trystan Surawy-Stepney et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a new method called projected least squares (PLS) for quantum process tomography (QPT). The method involves computing the least-squares estimator of an unknown channel's Choi matrix and projecting it onto the convex set of Choi matrices. The authors provide closed form solutions for the estimators in various experimental setups and propose a novel two-step method for projecting the estimators onto the set of matrices representing physical quantum channels. They also provide concentration bounds, sampling complexities, and confidence regions for the error of the estimators. Numerical experiments demonstrate that PLS achieves high accuracy and computational tractability.

Experimental demonstration of optimized quantum process tomography on the IBM quantum experience

Akshay Gaikwad et al.

Summary: We experimentally implemented complete and optimized quantum process tomography on the IBM QX2 quantum processor using two constrained convex optimization techniques, studying their performance in terms of experimental complexity and fidelity obtained. Several two-qubit quantum gates were characterized, with the general quantum circuit being found efficient and extendable to higher dimensions and other platforms.

Generation and verification of 27-qubit Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states in a superconducting quantum computer

Gary J. Mooney et al.

Summary: By utilizing quantum readout error mitigation and parity verification error detection on the IBM Quantum ibmq_montreal device, a fidelity of 0.546 for a 27-qubit GHZ state was recorded with a confidence level of 98.6% demonstrating genuine multipartite entanglement (GME) across the full device. The effect of parity verification on GHZ fidelity, although relatively modest, led to a detectable improvement in the fidelity of GHZ states.

True experimental reconstruction of quantum states and processes via convex optimization

Akshay Gaikwad et al.

Summary: In this study, a constrained convex optimization (CCO) method is used to experimentally characterize arbitrary quantum states and unknown quantum processes on a two-qubit NMR quantum information processor. The CCO method provides physically valid density matrices and process matrices with significantly improved fidelity compared to standard methods, even in the presence of errors due to decoherence. Additionally, the study assumes Markovian system dynamics and uses a Lindblad master equation in conjunction with the CCO method to completely characterize noise processes present in the NMR system.

Fault-tolerant control of an error-corrected qubit

Laird Egan et al.

Summary: Quantum error correction encodes information into a larger quantum system to protect it, and fault-tolerant circuits are essential for controlling logical qubits and suppressing errors. Experimental demonstration of fault-tolerant circuits for a Bacon-Shor logical qubit with trapped ion qubits shows significant reductions in error rates in the presence of noise. This indicates the potential of fault-tolerant circuits to enable highly accurate logical primitives in current quantum systems, with the possibility of achieving a stabilized logical qubit through improved gate operations and measurements.
